Game
14 of Group A was the fixture between RSC Andylecht
and Malo Guerreros FC. The defeat for Giggs
Boson FC had made things easier for both these
teams. Let's have a look at what was at stake
for the two teams?
RSC
Andylecht just needed to avoid defeat to secure
Plate qualification. A loss would see them vulnerable
to their opponents leapfrogging them in the
table. A draw would mean fourth place. A win,
combined with a Terrible Football defeat, could
mean third place subject to goal difference.
Malo
Guerreros FC had a simple objective – win. A
draw/defeat would see them finish in sixth place.
A win could see them climb into fourth position
and claim a place in the Plate. They would need
a 2 goal win though to climb above RSC Andylecht.
Malo
Guerreros FC really needed to score the opening
goal to put the pressure on but it was RSC Andylecht
who struck first (Jana Ranganathan) to give
them a cushion. It meant Malo Guerreros would
not have to score at least 3 without reply.
Jana Ranganathan went on to complete a hat-trick
and with each goal it was an extra nail in the
coffin to Malo Guerreros FC's qualification
hopes. In the end, RSC Andylecht finished with
a flourish – Andy Sumner, Pat Coulter and Ashley
Clews each bagged a goal as their team ran out
6-0 winners.
We
had to say farewell to Malo Guerreros FC on
their debut. We thank them for attending and
hope to see them again at another tournament
in the future.
