At the start of Round 5, we would see BabyBlauuwe Beesten kick us off against Giggs Boson FC.

BabyBlauuwe Beesten were our current leaders (3 wins, 1 draw) and they needed another point to guarantee their place in the Cup competition. They could afford defeat provided Terrible Football didn't win with a 7 goal swing in goal difference. A win would secure them the Group A title.

Giggs Boson FC were in a much more precarious position. They were currently in fifth place but just one point outside the Plate qualification positions. Their fate was out of their hands. They had to win and hope RSC Andylecht failed to win to go through. If Giggs Boson FC drew here it would be enough if RSC Andylecht lost by 2 goals.

The one thing Giggs Boson could not afford to do was lose and in the first half things were looking ok for them. They held the league leaders to 0-0 at the break. If they could keep it tight at the back and nick a goal at the other end they would be in business. However, it was the Dutch who broke the deadlock. Sander Meester scored twice and then Chris van de Graaf added a third to make it 3-0.

Sadly for Giggs Boson FC they were out. Congratulations to BabyBlauuwe Beesten who qualified for the Cup as Group A winners.

Game 14 of Group A was the fixture between RSC Andylecht and Malo Guerreros FC. The defeat for Giggs Boson FC had made things easier for both these teams. Let's have a look at what was at stake for the two teams?

RSC Andylecht just needed to avoid defeat to secure Plate qualification. A loss would see them vulnerable to their opponents leapfrogging them in the table. A draw would mean fourth place. A win, combined with a Terrible Football defeat, could mean third place subject to goal difference.

Malo Guerreros FC had a simple objective – win. A draw/defeat would see them finish in sixth place. A win could see them climb into fourth position and claim a place in the Plate. They would need a 2 goal win though to climb above RSC Andylecht.

Malo Guerreros FC really needed to score the opening goal to put the pressure on but it was RSC Andylecht who struck first (Jana Ranganathan) to give them a cushion. It meant Malo Guerreros would not have to score at least 3 without reply. Jana Ranganathan went on to complete a hat-trick and with each goal it was an extra nail in the coffin to Malo Guerreros FC's qualification hopes. In the end, RSC Andylecht finished with a flourish – Andy Sumner, Pat Coulter and Ashley Clews each bagged a goal as their team ran out 6-0 winners.

We had to say farewell to Malo Guerreros FC on their debut. We thank them for attending and hope to see them again at another tournament in the future.

The 15th and final game of Group A had a lot riding on it for FC Mallard and Terrible Football. This was effectively a straight shoot-out for second position. Whichever team could grab second would qualify for the Cup, the other team would progress to the Plate competition.

With the other 14 games complete both teams knew exactly what they had to do. From an FC Mallard perspective, they needed a draw or win to secure second position.

From a Terrible Football perspective, they knew a win would see them climb above their opponents. They also knew a draw would be good enough to finish in third position. Defeat would see them finish in fourth position (which would theoretically mean a tougher Plate Semi-Final compared to finishing third).

FC Mallard were unbeaten today (2 wins, 2 draws) and that looked set to continue when Iain Askham put his team 1-0 up in the first half. In the second half FC Mallard eased away from their opponents. Kevin Lindsay opened his personal account to make it 2-0. Robbie Lapsley scored his team's first of the day and he added another here for 3-0. Iain Askham then completed what he started with his second of the game to wrap up the 4-0 win.

Congratulations to FC Mallard who secured their place in the Cup. Commiserations to Terrible Football but they still had the Plate to look forward to.
