The 15th July 2017 was a memorable moment in eurofootballfives.com history as it marked our first ever Sixes tournament. It was such a success that we booked in the 2018 event immediately after the conclusion of that tournament. Just over 2 years later and we were celebrating the third edition of the Amsterdam Sixes and it was another sell-out. We couldn't wait to get the 2019 festivities underway.

The first teams in action in Group A were BabyBlaauwe Beesten (Hol) and Malo Guerreros FC (Eng). Both teams were on debut and so they had a blank canvas upon which to paint their footballing artistry. Let the games commence……

It was the home team that got off to a flyer as Piet Vriend opened the scoring for the Dutch team. BabyBlaauwe Beesten then extended that lead to 2-0 and they sat in a comfortable position at the half-time break. There was no addition to the scoring in the second half as the men from Amsterdam secured all 3 points.

It was a tough opening game for Malo Guerreros but the beauty of the 6-team group is that there was plenty of games left to make their mark on this tournament.

Next up was Giggs Boson FC versus Terrible Football. Giggs Boson were due to play against the 2017 Champions Ballon T'oros (Hol) but in the lead up to the tournament they had to withdraw due to injuries and players on holiday. We are very grateful for Terrible Football to step into the breach and fulfill their spot.

Could this be a Denmark at the 1992 European Championship moment for Terrible Football? Denmark were not supposed to be in Euro 92 but they qualified after Yugoslavia were disqualified due to warfare in their country. Not only did Denmark enter the tournament but they went on to win it. An omen for Terrible Football?

It could well be as it was Terrible Football who took the lead in this one. Terrible Football were a multi-national side but based in Amsterdam so representing the Netherlands. It was Harry Smith who opened the scoring it what was the only goal of the first half.

As with the previous game, the second half proved goal-less and Terrible Football walked off the pitch with all 3 points. For Giggs Boson it was a decent performance but, alas, no points to show for their efforts.

The final fixture in the opening round of Group A was an example of a team with previous eurofootballfives.com experience (RSC Andylecht) playing against a team on debut (FC Mallard).

RSC Andylecht (Eng) were making eurofootballfives.com appearance #2 having debuted at the 2018 Algarve Open just over a year ago. In their 8-team group they recorded 4 wins, 2 draws and suffered just the one defeat. They conceded just the one goal along the way. They finished in third place in the table – one place higher than the eventual champions (9 Nana Budds). They qualified for the Cup but went out in the Quarter-Finals narrowly (1-0) to Cruz Del Sur who finished runners-up.

It was RSC Andylecht who took a first half lead through Patrick Coulter. Unlike the previous two games in Round 1, the second half here had plenty of goals. Robbie Lapsley equalized for 1-1 with his team's first goal in eurofootballfives.com action. RSC Andylecht were back in front at 2-1 when Andrew Sumner scored for his side. Iain Askham scored a second equalizer for FC Mallard before Daniel Craik put his team ahead for the first time. It was a crucial time to go ahead as Daniel Craik's goal proved to be the match winner.
