The
final game of Group B was Ladzio FC versus Toros.
At the start of the round it was first versus
fourth but Toros did have a game in hand. Now,
that game had been played (and won) by Toros it
was still first versus fourth but only 1 point
separated the top 4. So, what were the permutations:
Ladzio
FC win: Ladzio FC would win the group, TEDO3 would
go through to the Cup with them in second place.
Spider Mans & Eagle and Toros would qualify
for the Plate in third and fourth respectively.
A
draw: Ladzio FC would win the group. Toros would
qualify for the Cup in second position over TEDO3
on goal difference. TEDO3 and Spider Mans &
Eagle would qualify for the Plate in third and
fourth respectively.
Toros
win: A Toros win would see them climb from fourth
to first and win Group B. Ladzio FC and TEDO3
would both finish on 10 points so it would come
down to goal difference. TEDO3 had finished with
+4 (10-6), Ladzio FC were currently +6 (9-3) so
Ladzio FC could only afford a narrow loss. A 3-1
loss would see them with an identical record and
as they drew 0-0 a penalty shoot-out would be
required to see who made the Cup and who made
the Plate. Spider Mans & Eagle would qualify
for the Plate in fourth position in the event
of a Toros win.
It
was Toros who made the early running and they
forged a 2-0 lead by half-time. Tim Van Gelder
added another two to his tally as he continued
to bang the goals in. That 3-1 result and penalty
shoot-out was still a distinct possibility. However,
Toros piled on the goals in the second half as
John van Hoften and Max Van Gelder (2) completed
a thoroughly comprehensive victory.
The
nature of the result was a shock to us as Ladzio
FC had won 5 and drawn 1 of their last 6 games
in our tournaments so whilst a loss was always
an option the 5-0 result was a shock. It was Toros
who where Group B champions and made it a Dutch
top 2.
