The climax of the day's events had arrived - The 2017 Amsterdam Sixes Cup Final.

Whilst those teams who had battled hard yet already departed could enjoy a nice cool beer and enjoy the spectacle of the tournament climax, there was still work to do for our two finalists. What a Cup Final we had in prospect! We had two teams who had both excelled throughout the day and I don't think anyone could argue that they didn't deserve to be in the Final.

The two teams;

TEDO3: Played 6, won 5, lost 1. They had scored 11 goals along the way and conceded six. That doesn't tell the whole story as they had 5 clean sheets and conceded all six in game .

Toros: Played 6, won 5, lost 1 today. They had scored 23 goals and conceded 7. If you included their Fives results (as Vieze Vu) they had played 14 with 10 wins, 2 draws and 2 defeats scoring 57 goals and conceding 25. They had put a huge effort in today – would stamina be a factor in this Cup Final?

The only thing guaranteed before the start of this Cup Final was that we would have a Dutch winner of the inaugural Amsterdam Sixes. The referee blew the whistle to kick us off and it was clear from the start that these two teams were evenly matched. It was Toros who scored first with Brendan Ashley putting his team ahead. They lead 1-0 at the break.

The second half kicked off and the pattern of the game was very similar – two evenly matched teams and it would come down to who would take their chances. Could Toros score the killer second goal or could TEDO3 get back on level terms. It was the latter and they did it in style. Aren Van Muijen scored one of the goals of the tournament as he danced and weaved through the Toros midfield then defence to slot the ball past the goalkeeper. It was a moment of individual brilliance and TEDO3 were back on par. The scores remained level until full-time.

Our first ever winner of the 2017 Amsterdam Sixes would be decided on penalties.

The penalty shoot-out was full of drama. In the early stages the two teams just couldn't miss. In the regulation 3 penalties each both teams were perfect with all 6 converted and we would require sudden death to settle this title.

TEDO3 were up first but missed. The door was open for Toros to secure the glory but they were unable to take advantage and the shoot-out remained level at 3-3. TEDO3 had a reprieve but missed again with their fifth spot kick. Having had 6 converted penalties in a row we had now seen 3 in a row missed. The pressure shifted to Toros who had a second chance to win the Cup Final and this time they took full advantage. As the ball hit the back of the net it sparked wild celebrations for the Toros team.

We would like to congratulate TEDO3 on a superb performance over the course of the tournament and commiserations on missing out in the Cup Final. They would collect runners-up medals in the presentation. There was also talk of them maybe joining us at our Barcelona Fives tournament in October. We hope to see them there.

The individual honour of the day went to Toros as well. Tim Van Gelder was the top scorer of the Amsterdam Sixes with 11 goals. Well done to him.

Congratulations to our champions - Toros (Vieze Vu) - they became our first winners of a Sixes event. It was a great win and they had certainly earned it with 15 games of football on the day. After 89 Fives tournaments this was our first Sixes event and it was so popular it will be back in the schedules for 2018 so we hope you can all join us next year.
