So,
who would take their place in the Final from
the second Semi-Final? The two teams set to
do battle were Toros against Cheesecake FC.
Toros
were on debut and breaking new ground. Cheesecake
FC were seasoned veterans in our tournaments
and were playing in their 7th eurofootballfives.com
Semi-Final. In the previous six they had won
2, drawn 2 and lost 2. Of the two drawn Semi-Finals
they won 1 of their penalty shoot-outs and lost
the other. They had 3 appearances in finals
winning the Plate at the 2013 Mallorca Tournament
and the Cup at the 2014 Mallorca Tournament.
This
game promised to be quite a match-up. Toros
had just reached the Cup Final in the 2017 Amsterdam
Fives (as Vieze Vu) so were looking to make
the second final of the day. The Vieze Vu team
stepped into the shoes of Toros who were a no-show.
The first game was conceded as a walkover but
since then they had won all four games on the
field of play. Toros were our top goalscorers
with 21 goals scored so far. Cheesecake FC reached
this stage after finishing second in Group B.
They had 3 wins from their 5 games.
It
was Toros who made the initial breakthrough
with Tim Van Gelder continuing his rich vein
of form in front of goal. Across the Fives and
the Sixes tournaments he would go on to score
24 goals today. His goal here gave Toros a 1-0
lead at half-time.
Tim
Van Gelder was on target again in the second
half for the Dutch as was Justin Rees for Cheesecake
(his fourth of the tournament) so we entered
the final stages of the game with Toros holding
a slender 2-1 lead. The lead may have been slender
but it was sufficient as Toros held on and booked
their place in the Cup Final.
We
had to say farewell to Cheesecake FC – they
were on tour for the stag weekend of Mark Hignett.
Many congratulations and best wishes for your
wedding (we hope you got back from Amsterdam
in one piece!).
