In
the continuing drama of Group A in the 2024 Amsterdam
Sevens, Ruta Uno FC from Wales faced off against
Sweden's BK Manskomplex. Having endured two narrow
defeats against the top two teams in the group,
Ruta Uno FC were determined to secure a win to
stay in contention for the knockout stages. If
they could do so, they would go level with their
opponents in the table. From a Swedish perspective,
they could share the lead at the top of Group
A (temporarily at least).
The
match began with Ruta Uno FC taking control early
on. Their efforts were rewarded when Liam Flaherty
scored to give the Welsh side a 1-0 lead at halftime.
This was a familiar position for Ruta Uno FC,
having also led at the break in their previous
match against the defending champions, Humble
Goats. In the second half, Ruta Uno FC continued
their strong performance. Craig Green extended
their lead with a well-placed goal, making it
2-0. The Welsh team then capped off their impressive
display with another goal from Morgan Roberts,
sealing a 3-0 victory.
The
final whistle confirmed the 3-0 win for Ruta Uno
FC, a crucial result that provided them with three
much-needed points. They were now one of three
teams locked on 6 points in joint second. The
victory was a significant boost to their chances
of advancing to the knockout stages. BK Manskomplex,
despite their efforts, were unable to find a response
but were still very much in the pack.

The
final match of Round 4 in Group A saw Riises Pieces
take on the defending champions, Humble Goats.
Riise's Pieces could join the party on 6 points
if they could secure a victory in this one although
the odds were stacked against them. Humble Goats
had only lost 3 games out of 30 (including today)
in eurofootballfives.com competition. All of those
were in our Sixes event, in the Sevens they were
unbeaten in 17 games.
Riises
Pieces made a strong start, taking the lead with
a goal from Chris Maydom. This early advantage
provided a glimmer of hope for Riises Pieces as
they looked to secure a valuable win. However,
Humble Goats quickly responded, and Hidde Makimei
equalized before halftime, making it 1-1 at the
break. Still, a solid performance from the English
team.
The
second half saw an intense battle between the
two sides, with both teams creating opportunities.
Hidde Makimei, who had been instrumental in Humble
Goats' previous successes, once again proved to
be the key player. He scored the decisive goal
in the second half, giving Humble Goats a 2-1
lead. The final whistle confirmed a 2-1 victory
for Humble Goats, a result that underscores their
resilience and quality as defending champions.
Riises Pieces, despite a commendable effort, were
unable to maintain their lead but should be proud
of the performance.
This
win further solidified Humble Goats' position
at the top of Group A and, with their walkover
to come, essentially secured the Group A win for
them. It was the 3 rd time in 5 tournaments they'd
topped their group.
