Welcome
to the 2024 Amsterdam Sevens, the third edition
of this thrilling tournament, which promises to
deliver another exciting chapter in its history.
Held in the picturesque and vibrant city of Amsterdam,
this year's competition features a diverse array
of teams from England, Wales, the Netherlands,
and Sweden, all vying for glory. The Humble Goats,
having won both previous editions of the Amsterdam
Sevens, will be looking to defend their title
and secure a remarkable three-peat. However, they
will face stiff competition from the talented
teams representing England, Wales, the Netherlands,
and Sweden, each determined to dethrone the reigning
champions and etch their names into the tournament's
storied history
The
opening match in Group A featured BK Manskomplex
from Sweden taking on Riises Pieces from England.
Riises Pieces began the game with determination,
and their efforts were rewarded when Chris Maydom
opened the scoring, giving the English team a
1-0 lead. However, BK Manskomplex quickly regrouped
and responded. Shawn Reddy emerged as the key
player for the Swedish side, netting two crucial
goals to turn the game around and give BK Manskomplex
a 2-1 lead by halftime. The second half saw both
teams battling hard but despite numerous attempts
from both sides, the defences held firm, and no
further goals were added to the scoreline.
The
result gave the Swedish team a positive start
to their tournament, earning them three valuable
points in Group A. Riises Pieces, despite their
early lead, were unable to secure a result and
will look to bounce back in their upcoming matches.

The
2024 Amsterdam Sevens format consisted of two
groups, each comprising six teams. Every team
will play against the others in their group
once, with three points awarded for a win, one
point for a draw, and none for a defeat. The
stakes are high as the top two teams from each
group will progress to the prestigious Cup semi-finals,
while the third and fourth-placed teams will
move on to compete in the Plate semi-finals.
Unfortunately, the teams finishing fifth and
sixth in their groups will see their journeys
end at the group stage.
The
second game of Group A in the 2024 Amsterdam
Sevens saw Jamaica Bell take on the defending
champions, Humble Goats. The first half was
a tightly contested affair, with both teams
displaying solid defensive organization and
tactical discipline. Despite several promising
attacks and a few near misses, neither side
managed to break the deadlock. The half-time
whistle blew with the score still at 0-0, leaving
everything to play for in the second half.
As
the second half commenced, the intensity of
the match increased. Humble Goats, determined
to start their title defence with a win, began
to apply more pressure on the Jamaica Bell back
line. Their persistence paid off when Hidden
Makimei found the back of the net, scoring the
only goal of the game and giving Humble Goats
a crucial 1-0 win. The match highlighted the
competitive nature of the tournament, with every
game proving to be a crucial step toward ultimate
glory. Jamaica Bell, despite a valiant effort
would end the game pointless but they had impressed
and would be competitive in this event.

The
third game of Group A in the 2024 Amsterdam Sevens
was scheduled to see Ruta Uno take on Haagse Bluf.
However, in a disappointing turn of events, Haagse
Bluf failed to show up for the match. This no-show
not only reflected poorly on the team but also
left their opponents and other teams in Group
A disappointed.
As
per tournament rules, Ruta Uno were awarded a
3-0 walkover victory due to Haagse Bluf's absence.
We apologise to all the teams in Group A for this
unexpected and unfortunate situation. Every other
team scheduled to face Haagse Bluf will also be
awarded a 3-0 walkover victory, ensuring fairness
and consistency in the competition.
