Whatever happened over the next period, we would have a new name on the Amsterdam Sevens trophy. Could WWK DB win and keep the trophy in the Netherlands or could Scoop FC be the first overseas team to take the trophy on the flight home.

In terms of form, we had a little clue as to how this match might go as the two teams played each other at the end of Group B. Scoop FC won it 1-0 and they'd be more than happy with déjà vu. WWK DB had to find a way to turn the match around.

The 2024 Amsterdam Sevens Cup Final brought together two formidable teams in a clash that promised excitement and high stakes – it delivered. Scoop FC, making an impressive debut in the tournament, faced off against the Dutch powerhouse WWK DB, who had been tipped as potential winners from the outset (was our venue manager going to be correct?).

It was Eddie Summers who broke the deadlock right at the outset of the game, scoring his fifth goal of the tournament to give Scoop FC a crucial 1-0 lead. Following the goal, the intensity of the match only increased. Scoop FC adopted a resolute defensive stance, determined to protect their lead. What followed was a masterclass in defensive football. Scoop FC's backline executed heroic blocks, intercepting WWK DB's advances with remarkable precision. Their goalkeeper was in sensational form, pulling off a series of stunning saves that left the WWK DB attackers in disbelief and commanding his box with real presence.

WWK DB, renowned for their attacking prowess, threw everything they had at Scoop FC. They dominated the games in terms of possession, relentlessly pressing forward in search of an equalizer. However, as the minutes ticked away, the frustration for WWK DB grew. Their shots were blocked, their crosses intercepted, and their efforts thwarted by an unwavering Scoop FC defence that gave no quarter.

The final whistle blew, and Scoop FC emerged victorious with a 1-0 win (a repeat of the group phase tie) securing the 2024 Amsterdam Sevens title on their debut. It was a testament to their tactical discipline, defensive heroics, and the goals of Eddie Summers and Joshua Bright (5 each on the day). The entire team contributed and were worthy of praise though as they celebrated their triumph, a historic achievement that would be remembered for years to come.

Commiserations to WWK DB, who played with great heart and intensity. They were a dominant force throughout the tournament, and their efforts in the final were nothing short of valiant. They lost only two games all day – both to Scoop FC which suggests there can be no arguments about our winners today. Their performance in the tournament was exemplary, and they can hold their heads high knowing they gave everything on the pitch.

Scoop FC's victory was a story of determination, teamwork, and resilience. They defied the odds, defended like lions, and seized their moment of glory. In a Euro 2024 summer where the 3 Lions couldn't win gold, the 13 lions of Scoop FC most certainly could. Congratulations to Scoop FC, the 2024 Amsterdam Sevens champions!
