There
was no doubt we had the best four teams in the
Cup Semi-Finals. If you have a look at the stats
page you will see the four teams were the four
top scorers, had the four best defences, had
the most clean sheets and the best goal difference.
This doesn't often happen as often a team will
perform well in one particular area but miss
out in the Cup. WWK DB had booked their place
in the Cup Final from the first semi-final.
Who would join them? It was Scoop FC against
Jamaica Bell.
With
Humble Goats going out on Pitch 4, it was arguably
Scoop FC who were the form team in the tournament.
They had started off with two draws but three
successive wins with 11 goals in those 3 games
saw them surge to the top of Group B including
a win against WWK DB who awaited them in the
Cup Final if they could get past Jamaica Bell.
Jamaica
Bell would be no pushovers. They'd got all the
way to the Cup Final in the Amsterdam Fives
and were bidding to also make it to the showpiece
game in the Sevens as well. They were second
in Group A but only the 2x defending champions
could pip them and, even then, only with a narrow
1-0 win at the start of the day.
The
first goals in these games are often vital as
it then dictates the subsequent pattern of play.
Being able to defend and play on the counter
is such an advantage. It was Scoop FC who struck
first with Joshua Bright bagging his fifth goal
of the tournament. Scoop FC had not conceded
for the last two games so Jamaica Bell would
have their work cut out trying to get back into
this. In the end, it was a task that proved
beyond them. It was a third clean sheet on the
bounce and with Harry Green scoring at the other
end for 2-0, it was the final nail in the coffin
for Jamaica Bell.
We
had to say farewell to Jamaica Bell but what
a debut they'd had – a Cup Final in the Fives
and a Cup Semi-Final in the Sevens - a magnificent
debut! Scoop FC were also on debut…could they
bring it home. They had one more match to go.
