One
all-England and one all-Portugal semi-final meant
that an England versus Portugal final was assured
before the two semi-finals even kicked off but
which teams would contest the final were the unanswered
questions.
If
we tell you that 2-0 is the most common semi-final
scoreline in eurofootballfives.com history we
will probably not give you great odds on guessing
the final scores in the Albufeira Fives Plate
semi-finals.
KPMG
WFC met Ebirds in the first semi-final. This promised
to be a great encounter with KPMG only just missing
out on the Cup competition and Ebirds gaining
strength and form as the tournament progressed.
The game proved to be a close contest and KPMG
WFC got their noses in front with a goal from
Ashley Henley what a time to score your first
goal of the tournament! The first goal in these
games often prove crucial as the team in front
have something to hold onto whilst the team who
fall behind have to chase the game and as the
minutes tick away gamble more and inevitably leave
gaps at the back.
Ebirds
tried everything they could to get back into the
game. As time went on the pressure was beginning
to tell on both sides and Ebirds were now trying
to capitalize on long throw-ins into the box to
cause trouble in the KPMG WFC box. KPMG WFC were
looking fairly comfortable against this tactic
though. Then, as the final whistle drew closer
the decisive moment came a second goal from
KPMG to break Ebirds hearts. The scorer, none
other than Emma Jesse keeping up her goal per
game average as she took her tournament tally
to 6.
Who
would join KPMG WFC in the final? Well we can
confidently say CAAF Alte but will it be their
A or B team? In a curious twist of fate the
clubs two teams met each other in this derby'
game. The game had a curious atmosphere which
at times was like a training match and at other
times was intense. In the end it was the A team
that proved to have the extra edge with a double
from Maria Canhoto to take their berth in the
final.
