KPMG
WFC and CAAF Alte “A” met in the very first game
of Group A with the English side running out 3-1
winners on that occasion. Both teams had now played
six games and so required both skill and stamina
to burn as they entered their 7 th contest of
the day.
In
a game that had the watching galleries enthralled
it was tooth'n'nail, hammer'n'tong, end to end
and a whole manner of other clichés for
most of the game before the deadlock was finally
broken. KPMG WFC in a rare lapse of concentration
(maybe through tiredness?) allowed Michaela Lopez
to drag two players out of the middle and leave
her strike partner a simple tap-in, unmarked at
the back post. There was nothing that the KPMG
WFC ‘keeper could do as the ball was struck home
from a yard.
It's
an old adage in football that you are never safe
at 1-0 which probably explains why CAAF Alte “A”
continued to attack. This policy paid dividends
as they sealed victory and the Plate Trophy with
a second goal. Perhaps it was only fitting that
their second goal was scored by Michaela Lopez
– surely one of the stars of the tournament.
Congratulations
to CAAF Alte “A” and commiserations to KPMG WFC
who had performed so well during the Albufeira
Fives and were a credit to the tournament.
