Not
that we wish to gloat you understand but hands
up who remembers our prediction before Group A
Match 2 as to who the finalists would be? Well,
let us remind you and bask in our tipster glory.
It was Padernesne and Womblettes and that's exactly
who stepped onto pitch A for the Albufeira Fives
Cup Final. It was time for battle to see who would
be the first ever winners of the Albufeira Fives
title.
Last
time around Padernesne ran out 1-0 winners in
a game that could have gone either way. Second
time round we expected much of the same. The first
half saw both defences on top and we reached half-time
with the scores still tied at 0-0. Midway through
the second half and the stalemate persisted with
each team cancelling the other out and little
in the way of clear cut chances.
With
three minutes to go though all the talk was of
extra time, golden goal and even penalties. Padernesne
had other ideas though as the game turned on its
head. Padernesne took the lead through Lucia as
she took her personal goal tally to 7 for the
competition. A vital goal and her most important
yet.
Maybe
it was the exertions of a close semi-final with
extra time that took it's toll on Womblettes or
maybe it was the deflation of going a goal behind
that had an effect on the Womblettes players.
Whatever the reason though the floodgates opened.
Daniella added a second to kill the game closely
followed by Bela who made it 3-0. Isobel then
got in on the act to make it 4-0, a really cruel
scoreline for Womblettes who for most of this
game had matched their opposition.
Whilst
Padernensne deserved their victory, the 4-0 scoreline
flattered them. A 1-0 victory would have been
a fair reflection of the game, 2-0 at a stretch.
Regardless of this, Padernesne stepped forward
to collect their trophy as worthy winners of the
inaugural Albufeira Fives.
Congratulations
to both teams for getting this far and also Thea
Carroll of Womblettes for finishing top of the
goal-scoring charts. Thank you to all teams who
entered the Albufeira Fives and made the tournament
such a fantastic and enjoyable event.
