DHL Prague Red (Cze)

DHL Prague Red went into Game 4 needing victory to join JNJ Global Services at the top of the group. If they wanted to make their last game showdown easier they needed a 9 goal win to only need a draw in that final game. The way Widow Makers had played today this was not going to be easy at all. They started off in pursuit of this task particularly well and by half-time they were well on their way. Five first-half goals had put them on course for their target with two goals from Idris, two goals from Adeogun Oluwatosin and one from Jan Pupik.

The second half was probably to witness one of the biggest turnarounds we've ever seen and certainly the most destructive period for DHL Prague Red's campaign for Plate glory. Lukas Vrba scored what must have looked like a consolation to both teams and it was viewed by all as an extra goal that DHL Prague Red would need to recover. When 5-1 became 5-2 DHL Prague Red heads went down as they needed to find two extra goals. At 5-3 and then 5-4 even winning the game was in doubt and no-one was happier than the JNJ Global Services squad who cheered every goal. Goals from Vrba, Opartny and Aziz Skiredj had put them right back in this game and having been 5-0 down were only one goal away from earning a draw in this match.

Adeogun Oluwatosin scored his second hat-trick in as many games to stem the flow making it 6-4 before Martin Rehacek secured victory at 7-4. It was victory and 3 points for DHL Prague Red but they walked off almost disappointed in what had been a great game.

IDC and Widow Makers met in the next game with the teams battling it out for 3rd place. For IDC it was their last chance to record their first win and for Widow Makers a chance to claim win number two. For IDC it was a familiar turn of events though as Widow Makers Lukas Vrba claimed a hat-trick taking his personal tally to a very impressive 11 tournament goals. Aziz Skiredj scored twice to take his tally to 5, Lukas Opartny scored to join Skiredj on 5 tournament goals and there was also a second goal of the day for Damien Smethurst.

There was to be a mini-victory for IDC though as Jakub Svec scored their second goal of the day and a goal they richly deserved for sticking to their task so admirably and with such good grace and cheer throughout. They were a credit to the tournament. For Widow Makers it was third place in the group and an overall tournament position of 8th.

The 6th and final game of the Plate Group was the title decider. Who would claim the Plate Trophy and who would have to settle for Runners-Up Medals? JNJ Global Services were in pole position as their superior goal difference meant they could take glory with just a draw but only a win would be good enough for DHL Prague Red. The latter edged a very close game in the morning group phase (1-0) and this game was proving to be just as closely contested.

As in the morning, the teams reached the break level at 0-0. Time was running out for DHL Prague Red to find that elusive goal and this game (and the Plate) was poised on a knife-edge. We were to witness a goal in the second half and when that goal game it was a dagger to DHL Prague Red hearts as Maxence Cuvelier scored his 4th and most important goal of the tournament to effectively seal victory. Time ran out for DHL Prague Red as they were unable to find a way through the JNJ Global Services defence.

At the final whistle, it was JNJ Global Services who had won the match and the Plate Group and took their first eurofootballfives.com silverware in their fifth tournament appearance. It was a remarkable turnaround for them as 3 morning defeats were swept aside with 3 afternoon victories and 3 clean sheets plus 18 goals along the way. Well done lads on a great achievement and enjoy your celebratory beers tonight.

Please do spare a thought for our gallant runners-up in DHL Prague Red who have now effectively been in 5 Plate finals and this was their 4 th runners-up medals and their 3rd runners-up performance in 2010 alone. We are sure there is another victory just around the corner for them and their next challenge will be at the 2011 Budapest Fives. We look forward to seeing you there!
