Round
7 would kick-off with Lucanos Locos against Community
Sauna. With JK Silvertown's win in the previous
match, Community Sauna were out of the equation
for the title. They could potentially move up
to second with a win, as they were 3 points behind
their opponents, but would need a big win as Lucanos
Locos had a +13 goal difference compared to +5
for Community Sauna. Community Sauna could do
JK Silvertown a favour by preventing a Lucanos
Locos victory. This would make JK Silvertown champions
before they even took to the field in their last
game.
For
Lucanos Locos, only a win would be good enough
and they then needed JK Silvertown to lose for
the title to be decided on goal difference. JK
Silvertown's goal difference was +15 so a two
goal win would be enough for the Polish team.
Lucanos
Locos continued their strong run of form with
a 3-1 victory over Community Sauna which put them
level on points with JK Silvertown and ahead on
goal difference. Goals from Daniel Kuty and Pawel
Zablocki helped secure the win, with Kuty and
Zablocki both moving to six goals for the tournament.
The
match started brightly for Lucanos Locos, who
took the lead in the first half through Daniel
Kuty. Kuty's strike gave the home side a deserved
1-0 advantage at the break, but Community Sauna
responded in the second half, with Charlie Duckworth
netting the equalizer to make it 1-1. Lucanos
Locos, however, quickly regained control. Pawel
Zablocki, who has been in excellent form, restoring
the lead and putting his side 2-1 up. Not long
after, Kuty struck again to secure the win.
With
this win, Lucanos Locos continued to push for
the top spot. They had done all they could have
done. They now had to wait and see if was enough
to win the title. For Community Sauna it was a
sad finish to the day (in more ways than one)
but they would go on to finish in the bronze medal
position.
The
match was overshadowed by an unfortunate and nasty
injury to one of the Community Sauna players (who
we won't name to protect their privacy). We do
wish the player well and a speedy recovery. All
the teams we spoke to passed on their best wishes
and asked after the player's welfare. Get well
soon.

In
a thrilling finale to each of their campaigns,
G.D. Leoes da Guarda and AFC Shooters played
out a dramatic 2-2 draw, with both teams battling
for 4th place. G.D. Leoes raced into a 2-0 lead
by half-time through goals from Antonio Maia
and Ivo Pereira, but AFC Shooters mounted an
impressive second-half comeback, with Eric Ongeri
and John Domokos leveling the score.
The
first half belonged to G.D. Leoes, who started
the match with intent. Antonio Maia opened the
scoring early, giving the home side a boost,
and it wasn't long before Ivo Pereira added
a second to put them firmly in control at 2-0
by the break. G.D. Leoes appeared to be cruising
towards a crucial win that would secure 4th
place and a top half finish.
However,
AFC Shooters came out in the second half determined
to fight back. Eric Ongeri halved the deficit
with a well-taken goal, igniting hope for the
visitors. With momentum now on their side, AFC
Shooters continued to press, and their efforts
were rewarded when John Domokos found the equalizer,
completing the comeback and making it 2-2.
Despite
chances for both teams to snatch a late winner,
the game ended in a draw. The result means that
G.D. Leoes finished in 4th place, ahead of AFC
Shooters on goal difference.

In
a closely contested match, Nothing Toulouse and
3 Lions FC played out a 1-1 draw, with both teams
securing much-needed results. 3 Lions FC earned
their first point of the tournament, while Nothing
Toulouse brought an end to their four-game losing
streak.
The
first half was a cagey affair, with both sides
creating few clear-cut chances. Neither team could
find the breakthrough, and the game remained goalless
at half-time.
In
the second half, 3 Lions FC took the lead when
Tasneem Radim calmly converted a penalty, giving
his side a 1-0 advantage and raising hopes of
their first win. However, Andrew Kelly struck
back for Nothing Toulouse, equalizing with a well-placed
finish to make it 1-1.
After
a long hot day I'm sure both teams will have been
grateful for the final whistle, the match ended
in a draw. While the result was not enough to
change their likely final standings, it was a
positive finish for both sides.

So,
it all came down to the final game – The Maulers
versus JK Silvertown. The Maulers were cast in
the role of spoilers as they could crash the JK
Silvertown party. They would have Lucanos Locos
cheering them on. A defeat for JK Silvertown would
hand the title to Lucanos Locos. JK Silvertown
were champions elect but needed a draw or win
to do so.
JK
Silvertown had played 6, won 6 so far with 18
goals scored and 3 conceded. It would take a quality
performance from The Maulers to stop them. You
also wondered if JK Silvertown might get caught
between playing their normal game or possibly
trying not to lose to secure the title.
The
first half was a battle of defences, with both
teams working hard to create opportunities. Despite
several attempts, neither side could break the
deadlock, and the match went into half-time at
0-0. If it stayed this way then JK Silvertown
would be champions. However, all the time it was
0-0 they would be vulnerable as it would take
just one moment of brilliance from The Maulers
or even a bad bit of luck or a cruel deflection
and the title could slip form JK Silvertown's
grasp.
However,
JK Silvertown came out with renewed determination
after the break. Chris Wright opened the scoring,
finding the back of the net with a well-timed
finish that put his team ahead 1-0. Soon after,
Alan Sanders, who has been a key player throughout
the tournament, doubled the lead with his goal,
effectively sealing the match for the league leaders.
With
this win, JK Silvertown secured the title and
celebrated a successful tournament campaign, capping
off their performance with a deserved victory.
JK Silvertown clinched the 2024 Porto Veterans
title and they did so with a 100% record. Lucanos
Locos had pushed them all the way and should be
given a lot of credit for their performance as
they finished runners-up.
The
personal honours went to Alan Sanders of JK Silvertown
who scored an impressive 12 goals on the day.
Chris Wright, his team-mate, pushed him closest
with 8 goals of his own. A solid defence and two
potent marksmen was the winning formula for JK
Silvertown today.
We
leave you today though with the 2024 Porto Veterans
Tournament winners…
JK
Silvertown
…..a
very well deserved victory!
