So, onto Round 5 we go and still plenty to play in the Veterans group particularly for Lucanos Locos. They were just 3 points off the league leaders. Whilst the destiny of the title was out of their control, they needed to keep winning so that if JK Silvertown slipped up they could capitalize.

Nothing Toulouse had begun well with two successive wins but their form had dipped with two successive defeats. Could they arrest this momentum? It would not be easy against a Polish team who were looking good. Lucanos Locos seemed to have goals from multiple sources which made them very hard to defend against. Daniel Kuty and Pawel Zablocki both added to their tally in the first half.

2-0 at half-time became 4-0 at full-time with Radek Kliszcz and Pawel Orzechowski each on target. The victory meant that Lucanos Locos were our top scorers with 16 goals and the best goal difference of +12 (admittedly JK Silvertown had a game in hand). They were certainly keeping the pressure on JK Silvertown and the English team knew it.

Next up was an encounter between two mid-table teams. G.D. Leoes da Guarda claimed a vital 2-1 victory over The Maulers, extending their winning streak to three games and moving up into third place in the standings. The Portuguese side capitalized on an early burst of form and held off a second-half fightback from their opponents to secure the points.

G.D. Leoes, after two consecutive victories, came into the match with confidence, and their assertive play from the outset quickly set the tone. The Maulers struggled to gain a foothold, and it wasn't long before the home side's pressure paid off.  The breakthrough came from Ivo Pereira to slot home his second goal of the day. The Portuguese side continued to dictate the pace and they were rewarded again before the break when Claudio Duarte stepped up to score his third goal of the campaign.

The Maulers came out with renewed energy after the interval. Captain Karl Quinn led by example as he scored a crucial goal to bring his side back into the match. With the score at 2-1, both teams searched for the next pivotal goal. The Maulers pushed hard for an equalizer, but G.D. Leoes' defence held firm. The Portuguese side had completed their third win on the bounce and continued their climb up the table. For The Maulers, it was a case of too little, too late. Despite a spirited second-half display, the defeat leaves them in sixth place, though they still have an opportunity to challenge for the top half of the table with two games to go.

At the top of the table the equation for JK Silvertown was simple – keep winning and they would be champions. It was a simple question but not necessarily an easy task. They'd overcome the hurdle of Lucanos Locos in Round 3 and were now up against their biggest challenge since then. They would play Community Sauna who were only 3 points behind them with 3 wins out of 4. If Community Sauna could win this one then we would have a three-team tie at the top of the group on 12 points. With 2 rounds to go it would certainly be game on.

The two teams played out a very close contest in the first half. The two defences were on top and the teams entered the break level at 0-0. A draw in the context of the group would be a better result for JK Silvertown. It would keep them at the top by 1 point instead of 3 but their destiny would still be in their own hands. For Community Sauna it would keep them in the hunt, but if they weren't going to beat JK Silvertown – who would?

The stalemate was broken in the second half and it was Chris Wright with his sixth goal of the tournament and arguably his most important yet. It was a dagger to the heart for the hopes of Community Sauna and Lucanos Locos. Could Community Sauna respond? In fact, it was Alan Sanders of JK Silvertown who scored next with his eighth of the day. The result would ensure JK Silvertown would have a 3 point lead at the top with just two games to go. For Community Sauna, it meant they were now 6 points off the leaders and their title charge had perhaps come to an end. However, second place was still very much up for grabs.

In the last game of Round 5, AFC Shooters edged past 3 Lions FC in a tightly contested match. They secured a narrow 1-0 victory thanks to Joe Wihl whose second-half goal proved to be the difference. Wihl's decisive strike marked his second goal of the tournament - both of which have delivered 1-0 wins for his side. The result lifts AFC Shooters to joint 5th place, while 3 Lions FC remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

The first half saw both teams struggle to break through each other's defences in a cagey affair. Despite several efforts from both teams, the first half ended in a stalemate at 0-0. The game opened up more after the break, with AFC Shooters beginning to push harder in search of a winner. Their persistence paid off when Joe Wihl became the hero for his side. 3 Lions FC pressed forward in search of an equalizer. However, despite some late pressure and a couple of half-chances, they were unable to break down AFC Shooters' well-organised backline. In the end, AFC Shooters comfortably saw out the final moments to secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory.

For AFC Shooters, they climbed into a share of 5th place, boosting their hopes of climbing further up the table and a top half finish. 3 Lions FC, meanwhile, will be disappointed not to have taken something from the game. Despite a resilient defensive performance, their inability to find the net at the other end leaving them in 8th place, with work to do if they are to claw their way off the bottom of the standings.
