Next
up was an encounter between two mid-table teams.
G.D. Leoes da Guarda claimed a vital 2-1 victory
over The Maulers, extending their winning streak
to three games and moving up into third place
in the standings. The Portuguese side capitalized
on an early burst of form and held off a second-half
fightback from their opponents to secure the
points.
G.D.
Leoes, after two consecutive victories, came
into the match with confidence, and their assertive
play from the outset quickly set the tone. The
Maulers struggled to gain a foothold, and it
wasn't long before the home side's pressure
paid off. The breakthrough came from Ivo
Pereira to slot home his second goal of the
day. The Portuguese side continued to dictate
the pace and they were rewarded again before
the break when Claudio Duarte stepped up to
score his third goal of the campaign.
The
Maulers came out with renewed energy after the
interval. Captain Karl Quinn led by example
as he scored a crucial goal to bring his side
back into the match. With the score at 2-1,
both teams searched for the next pivotal goal.
The Maulers pushed hard for an equalizer, but
G.D. Leoes' defence held firm. The Portuguese
side had completed their third win on the bounce
and continued their climb up the table. For
The Maulers, it was a case of too little, too
late. Despite a spirited second-half display,
the defeat leaves them in sixth place, though
they still have an opportunity to challenge
for the top half of the table with two games
to go.
