Round 2 began with the 7 th and final team to get their campaign underway. It was Pork Vale who were making their debut in our events and they were a welcome addition to the tournament. A great group of lads who fitted in well with the camaraderie of the other teams. They were dealt a tough fixture in their opening game with us as they would take on Polonia Limerick.

Polonia Limerick had enjoyed success in our events with Plate victories at the 2022 Barcelona Fives and 2023 Mallorca Veterans plus a Cup runners-up finish at the 2023 Mallorca Fives. Today, they began with a 0-0 draw against The Warriors.

It was our debutants, Pork Vale, who struck first with Paul Johnstone scoring his team's first goal of the day. It was a cracking (or “crackling”) start for the English team but Polonia Limerick were level before the break thanks to a Bart Baranski goal. In the second half Polonia Limerick edged ahead through Baranski again. Edek Przekwas's goal game Polonia Limerick some breathing space as they went on to win 3-1.

 
 
 

The 2024 Porto SuperVets Tournament would be decided on a league basis. There was one league with 7 teams. Each team would play each other team in their group once and therefore 6 group games. At the end of the group each team would have a final placing with the league leaders crowned 2024 Porto Veterans champions.

Game 5 of Group B was to be Bure Park Old Boys versus Peebles All Stars. Both teams opened up with a victory and were the top two at the end of Round 1. Polonia Limerick's win in the previous game had seen the Polish hit top spot but a win for either team in this fixture would see them claim top spot.

2019 Budapest Vets Tournament: Bure Park Old Boys beat Peebles Nae Stars, 3-0.

2019 Budapest Vets Tournament: Bure Park Seniors drew 2-2 with Peebles All Stars.

This was the 7th time these two teams had met in our events and so far it was a healthy record for the English team with 4 wins and 2 draws to date with a combined goal difference of 14-3. History was stacked in favour of Bure Park Old Boys but it was Peebles All Stars who reigned in Porto. A second goal of the tournament for Andriy Moryev was the difference in this fixture as Peebles All Stars picked up their second win in as many games. They were top of the table.

 
 
 

To complete Round 2 we had The Warriors versus Bure Park Seniors. This was a match between two teams that had been involved in our Veterans tournaments since 2015 but had yet to meet. The Warriors had largely competed in our May/June events whilst Bure Park had been involved in our Sept/Oct events. Today they would meet for the first time and we were looking forward to see how these two experienced sides would fare against each other.

The Warriors had secured a good opening point against Polonia Limerick first time out and would now be looking to build on that platform. Bure Park Seniors had lost 1-0 to their Old Boys side and were now looking to kickstart their campaign. In what was proving to be an evenly contested SuperVets tournament as a whole, this game was no different. The two teams entered the break level at 0-0.

The game would not end goal-less though. In the second period it was The Warriors who would make the breakthrough. Russ Weeks' came up with a captain's goal to send his team through to a 1-0 victory. It was 4 points from 6 and two clean sheets for The Warriors. They would end Round 2 with a share of second place.
