The
next match was the biggest game of the tournament
so far: Polonia Limerick versus Peebles All
Stars. Peebles All Stars were still top of the
table but only by a point. If they could win
this they would move 4 points above The Warriors
in second place. They would also open up a 5
point lead over Polonia Limerick (even though
Polonia Limerick would have a game in hand).
If Peebles All Stars could win this then they
would have their fate in their own hands.
Conversely
of course, if Polonia Limerick could win this
then they would be top of the table by a point
over Peebles All Stars but also with a game
in hand. Polonia Limerick would then be in pole
position to take this title.
With
the match underway it was Bart Baranski who
gave the Polish team a 1-0 lead. This would
now be a real test of Peebles All Stars title
credentials. Could they respond against this
strong Polonia Limerick team? The short answer
to that is yes as Andriy Moryev bagged his fourth
goal of the tournament. It was 1-1 at half-time.
There was to be no addition to the score in
the second half and the teams shared the points.
In
the context of the group, the draw kept Peebles
All Stars on top of the table. They held a 2
point lead over both The Warriors and Polonia
Limerick. Polonia had a game in hand though
so this table was still very delicately poised.
