It
was becoming crunch time at the 2024 Porto Veterans
Tournament. Each team had just two more games
to go to advance their case. Lucanos Locos were
the main rivals to JK Silvertown but things were
out of their control. They just had to keep winning
and hope that Silvertown would slip up. It was
important for them to keep winning and put the
maximum possible pressure on their rivals. They
were up against G.D. Leoes da Guarda which promised
to be a tough game as the Portuguese team came
into the match with 3 successive victories.
The
first half was a tactical battle with both teams
showing respect for each other's recent form.
Lucanos Locos, one of the top sides in the tournament,
controlled much of the possession but struggled
to break through G.D. Leoes' organized defense.
On the other hand, the Portuguese side, buoyed
by their own string of victories, looked solid
but lacked penetration going forward. The half
ended goalless, with neither team able to carve
out any significant chances.
In
the second half, the Lucanos Locos pressure paid
off as they scored the goal they desperately craved.
Krzysztof Fidrych, who had been dangerous throughout
the tournament, found the back of the net. His
third goal of the tournament and perhaps the most
important as it kept his team in the hunt for
the title. It was a moment of quality that broke
the deadlock and ultimately decided the match.
This
crucial win put Lucanos Locos level on points
with JK Silvertown, who still have to play in
Round 6. For G.D. Leoes, the defeat ended a three-game
winning streak and left them in 4th place.

Sauna sat in third position in the table but
games were running out for their title charge.
JK Silvertown, and now also Lucanos Locos, were
on 15 points. Community Sauna sat on 9 points.
They had to win this game and their last one
whilst hoping other results would go their way
to have a hope of winning this competition.
They were up against a Nothing Toulouse team
who had started well with 2 wins today but had
since seen three defeats as they slid down the
table. A win for Nothing Toulouse though would
put them level on points with their opposition
though for a share of third position.
The
game went with the form book as Community Sauna
secured a commanding 3-1 victory. Robbie Driver
opened the scoring, slotting home after a well-worked
team move. His goal gave the home side a deserved
1-0 lead heading into the break.
In
the second half, Community Sauna continued to
press, and their pressure paid off when Remi
Williams doubled the advantage. Williams, a
constant threat throughout the match, added
a second goal later on, making it 3-0 and effectively
putting the game beyond Nothing Toulouse's reach.
Nothing Toulouse, desperate to end their losing
streak, found a glimmer of hope late in the
game when David Hawthorne pulled one back. However,
it proved too little, too late, as Community
Sauna comfortably saw out the match
Community
Sauna's slim title hopes were still mathematically
possible. For Nothing Toulouse, the defeat marked
a fourth consecutive loss, further compounding
their recent struggles.

AFC
Shooters continued their run of narrow but effective
victories, securing a 1-0 win over The Maulers
thanks to a first-half goal from Matt Bailey.
The result marked AFC Shooters' third 1-0 victory
in their last four games, highlighting their strong
defensive foundation. With this win, they move
up to joint 4th in the standings, while The Maulers
remain in 7th, missing the chance to leapfrog
their opponents.
AFC
Shooters seemed to have found the right formula
in recent games putting 9 points on the board
from a possible 12 available based upon organised
defence. The recent string of victories meant
they came into the match with confidence. They
controlled the tempo early on, and their efforts
were rewarded when Matt Bailey found the back
of the net with a well-placed shot, giving his
side a 1-0 lead.
The
Maulers, who were hoping to climb above AFC Shooters
in the table and spark a late surge up the table,
struggled to break down their opponent's disciplined
backline. Despite pushing for an equalizer in
the second half, they found it difficult to create
clear-cut chances, as AFC Shooters remained resolute,
successfully protecting their lead until the final
whistle.

Lucanos
Locos and Community Sauna needed JK Silvertown
to drop points but it was perhaps too much to
ask for the team at the foot of the table (3 Lions
FC) to do them a favour against the league leaders
who possessed a 100% record.
JK
Silvertown showed no signs of a slip up as they
extended their lead at the top of the table with
a dominant 4-0 victory over 3 Lions FC in the
final game of Round 6. The league leaders took
control early and never looked back, with Alan
Sanders netting a hat-trick and Chris Wright adding
a fourth to seal a comprehensive win.
The
match began with JK Silvertown asserting their
dominance but just had the one goal to show for
it at half-time. Sanders, the tournament's top
scorer, was in lethal form and added two more
goals in the second half, completing his hat-trick
and taking his tally to 11 goals in the competition.
It must be stated that 3 Lions FC had no subs
so as each match and the tournament progressed
they would become more and more fatigued so they
were putting in a great shift. As the match wore
on, Chris Wright put the finishing touch on Silvertown's
performance, scoring his 7th goal of the tournament
to make it 4-0. The result underlined JK Silvertown's
status as the team to beat, extending their lead
at the top of the standings to 3 points.
For
3 Lions FC, it was another difficult outing, as
they remain rooted to the bottom of the table
without a win. Despite their efforts, they couldn't
contain Silvertown's attacking duo of Sanders
and Wright, whose clinical finishing proved the
difference.
