Round 4 of the 2024 Porto Veterans kicked off with The Maulers against Lucanos Locos. The Maulers came into the game fresh from their first victory of the day as they'd defeated 3 Lions FC. Lucanos Locos had just lost to JK Silvertown and needed to bounce back quickly to keep on the coat tails of JK Silvertown.

Lucanos Locos seemed to take defeat to JK Silvertown in their stride as they were quickly back to their ruthless best. They came flying out of the traps determined to make amends for that defeat. Sadly for The Maulers, it was they who faced the backlash. Pawel Zablocki was the main man at the start of the game as he put his side 2-0 up. Krzysztof Fidrych added his name to the scoresheet and it was 3-0 at the break.

It didn't get much better after half-time as Daniel Kuty extended that lead to 4-0. The Maulers had something to cheer when Simon Parkinson scored his fourth of the day but it was only a consolation goal. The result was emphatic for Lucanos Locos and put them level with JK Silvertown on 9 points. The nature of the win could well put pressure on JK Silvertown who knew they had to keep winning to stay on top of the table.

JK Silvertown were the big winners in Round 3. Not only did they beat their rivals Lucanos Locos but of the four teams locked on 6 points at the start of the round, only JK Silvertown walked off the pitch with all 3 points in Round 3. They had therefore opened up a 3 point lead on the chasing pack. One of the teams who missed out on the opportunity to join them on 9 points was Nothing Toulouse. They had a chance to bounce back with a win. If they could they would go joint top and bring JK Silvertown back into the pack.

It was the English team who struck first through Chris Wright. Wright was the top scorer at the 2018 Amsterdam Fives (12 goals) and the 2023 Barcelona Veterans (11 goals) and he took his tally up to 5 goals today already. He also maintained his record of scoring in every game so far. Wright had a partner in crime today with Alan Sanders more than matching him. Sanders made it 2-0 with his 6 th goal of the day and he too had scored in every game.

Nothing Toulouse pulled a goal back through David Hawthorne before the break to set-up a delicately poised second half. The next goal in this game was going to be the pivotal one. When it came it was from the boot of Alan Sanders as he moved his personal tally to 7 and the score onto 3-1. That's how we ended and JK Silvertown moved 3 points clear at the top again.

G.D. Leoes da Guarda were next up on Campo D as they took on 3 Lions FC. The Portuguese team had just picked up their first win and occupied joint fourth position. Another win could put them up to joint third in the table. They were up against the team at the foot of the table. Not only that but 3 Lions FC only had 6 players so didn't have the luxury of subs which was tough on a hot day in Portugal.

G.D. Leoes da Guarda continued where they left off in the previous match. Against Nothing Toulouse they went 2-0 up early and then managed the game to complete the victory in the second half. They did much the same here. It was Helder Goncalves that opened the scoring before Ivo Pereira made it 2-0. For both players, it was their first goal of the day.

After the break there was a goal from Carlos Jesus to make it 3-0. There was no way back for 3 Lions FC who were beginning to toil in the heat. Their search for their first points would go on. G.D. Leoes da Guarda were beginning to find their feet in this tournament.

The final game of Round 4 was Community Sauna against AFC Shooters. Community Sauna had taken the full 6 points from the opening two games before a surprise defeat last time out. At kick-off they sat 6 points behind leaders JK Silvertown. They could reduce that deficit to just 3 points with a win here and join Lucanos Locos in second place.

AFC Shooters on the other hand would come into the game with a morale boost from their last match. They'd lost to the top two in their first two games but had defeated the previously unbeaten Nothing Toulouse in their last game. They could make it a congested four teams in mid-table on 6 points if they could post a second consecutive victory.

AFC Shooters got off to the perfect start with JJ Monserrat on target. AFC Shooters had put in a strong defensive display last time out but they were unable to prevent Community Sauna equalizing through Ed Brown. Community Sauna had shown they were adept at coming from behind earlier in the day when they'd beaten The Maulers after conceding first. They moved ahead here with Ed Hill-Smith's goal before half-time.

In the second half Community Sauna moved further ahead with Ed Brown's second of the game as they sealed the 3-1 win. They moved up to joint second place but sat in third position on goal difference. They were still well placed in the title race – just 3 points behind JK Silvertown who were their next opponents.
