PVDC
Eindhoven and 3 Lions FC kicked off Round 4. PVDC
Eindhoven currently sat in second position on
6 points. They had picked up 2 wins in which they
scored 5 goals without reply. They lost 1-0 in
their other game.
3
Lions FC had been competitive in two games – a
0-0 draw and a narrow 2-1 defeat to the league
leaders. In their other game they lost heavily.
They would hope that was an outlier as they looked
to get some more points on the board. It would
not be easy against a PVDC Eindhoven team who
looked to be in a determined mood.
A
win in this game would put PVDC Eindhoven top
of the table – temporarily at least – but it would
put pressure on the teams around them when they
played their games in hand. John O'Gara scored
his second of the tournament to put PVDC 1-0 up.
Connor Secker was fresh from a double in the previous
match and he was on target again as he made it
2-0.
It
was a third win and a third clean sheet for PVDC
Eindhoven. They went top and lay down the gauntlet
to the chasing pack in Group B.
Next
up was Fiorentina Turner 1 versus Purnell Youth
2. The reverse fixture in Group A saw Purnell
Youth 1 and Fiorentina Turner 2 end level at 1-1.
In
Group B, Fiorentina Turner 1 were in need of a
win that would see them climb from fourth to second
in the table. Purnell Youth 2 needed the win to
join Fiorentina Turner 1 on 4 points in fourth
position. They had to win to have a chance of
reaching the Cup. Anything less would see them
cut adrift and only capable of qualifying for
the Plate.
The
other side of the coin was that Fiorentina Turner
1 could clinch a Cup qualification place with
a win. They seized that opportunity in style.
They already had a 7-0 win over 3 Lions FC to
their name and they almost matched that here.
Harry
Boys opened the scoring before a Matt Perry double
made it 3-0. Harry Boys extended the lead to 4-0
before Glen Brown made it 5-0. It was a hat-trick
for Harry Boys and 6-0 for Fiorentina Turner 1
as they completed a second big win of the morning.
The
final game of Round 4 and game 12 of Group B was
Yac Club Reserves versus Ecuador 100.
It
was 1st versus 3rd at the start of Round 4. The
other results in the round meant these teams were
now in third and fourth. Defeats for 3 Lions FC
and Purnell Youth meant the top 4 and the Cup
qualification places were decided – it was just
the order to settle. A win for Ecuador 100 would
see them go top by a point. A win for Yac Club
Reserves would see them joint top with PVDC Eindhoven.
Ecuador
100 were unbeaten today and both clubs came into
the game on the back of two successive wins.
It was Ecuador
100 who kept that momentum going as Yac Club Reserves
were feeling the pinch of injuries. Goals from
Alfredo, Andres and Jon ensured that Ecuador 100
rattled off their third successive win and went
into the final round of fixtures with a point
advantage at the top. Yac Club Reserves were in
fourth position.
