We had four teams qualify for the Plate competition.

The first Semi-Final would see Fiorentina Turner 2 take on Purnell Youth 2. This would be the first encounter between the two groups today. So far results had been:

Purnell Youth 1 (Eng) 1-1 Fiorentina Turner 2 (Eng)

Fiorentina Turner 1 (Eng) 6-0 Purnell Youth 2 (Eng)

Fiorentina Turner 2 had the better record today of the two teams. They picked up 1 win and 2 draws from their group fixtures with an even goal difference (10 scored, 10 conceded). Purnell Youth 2 picked up a 0-0 draw at the start of the day but 4 defeats had set them back. With 2 goals scored and 14 conceded they needed a big change in fortunes.

The game proved to be tighter than the form book suggested. Fiorentina Turner 2 were on top but only had a 1-0 lead (Nick Parkinson) going into the final stages of the match. Thomas Greenman scored a late equalizer for Purnell Youth 2 to send us into penalties.

After the first two rounds of penalties we were level at 2-2. Nick Parkinson and Matt Hanson converting for Fiorentina Turner 2. Daryl Harvey and Brad Hooper successful for Purnell Youth 2. The final round of penalties would prove decisive. Alex Villers scored his but David Thomas saw his penalty saved by Matt Carpenter.

Fiorentina Turner 2 were through. Purnell Youth 2 were out.

So, who would take their place in the Final from the second Semi-Final? The two teams set to do battle were Fiorentina Turner 1 against Ecuador 100.

Fiorentina Turner 2 had just reached the Plate Final. There was still the chance for a unique Cup & Plate double for Fiorentina Turner but a lot of football still to play to achieve this. What had been achieved for Fiorentina Turner was that they would produce the highest finish for an English team whatever happened now. Hopefully, they would be playing in the Cup Final.

Ecuador 100 still remained unbeaten on the day and had a run of 5 successive wins. These two teams played in their opening fixture of the day and drew 2-2. That draw was the only points Ecuador 100 had dropped today. The team representing Ecuasor today had 2 Plate wins to their name (2013 & 2018 Mallorca Fives). They were looking to reach their second Cup Final and fourth final overall in our events.

Momentum was with Ecuador 100 on the day and they carried that into the early stages of this game. Jon scored his seventh of the tournament to go 1-0 up and Wimper made it 2-0. Matt Perry reduced the deficit to 2-1. It was the fourth goal of the game that ultimately proved decisive. At 2-1 the game was very tight and could have gone either way. Alfredo's fourth of the tournament made it 3-1 and sealed the win for his team.

For Fiorentina Turner it was progression – Cup QF last year, Cup SF this year and therefore maybe a Cup Final next year? We hope to see them back to try.

There was some personal consolation for Harry Boys and Matt Perry as they shared the top goalscorer award. 8 goals each for them.
