At
the start of Round 3, we had an intriguing contest
between Bar Maruru and Fiorentina Turner 2. Both
teams drew 1-1 in Round 1 and both teams hit their
respective opponents for 6 in Round 2. These were
our two leaders in Group A and was set to be the
biggest fixture of the group so far.
In
Bar Maruru we had a team who had excelled in the
group phase of their only previous eurofootballfives.com
appearance. At our event here in May they secured
5 wins from 5 games with 14 goals scored and 2
conceded. They could not recreate that in the
knock-out phase as they went out at the first
hurdle.
In
the group phase here today Bar Maruru were showing
signs that they could replicate that group form.
They had opened the scoring in Rounds 1 and 2,
they would open the scoring for the third game
in a row here. Antoni Torres scored 4 goals at
the May tournament and he was amongst the goals
again here to make it 1-0 to the Spanish.
When
Fiorentina Turner 2 fell behind in Round 1 they
recovered to grab a point. To gain a point from
this game they would have to comeback from two
down as Manuel Galvan Sastre scored his fourth
in two games for Bar Maruru. That comeback was
looking increasingly difficult as Pacquiao made
it 3-0 before Marcos Almazau made it 4-0. The
points were now secured but Conadreja put the
finishing touches to a 5-0 victory.
Next
up we had Urbansport versus Yac Club. At the start
of Round 3 this looked like a straightforward
home win – Urbansport 4 points from 6 and were
joint leaders at the end of Round 2. Yac Club
had 2 defeats and the last one was a hammering
so hardly a morale booster.
Yac
Club were making their third eurofootballfives
appearance having debuted at the 2016 Riga Tournament.
They enjoyed a good start with a 1-0 win over
FC Maroon. They then suffered a 2-1 setback to
Zemniecki but bounced back with a 6-1 win over
The Crazy Gang. Defeats followed to FK Prienai
(Ltu) and Melee FC (Eng) but they had done enough
to finish fourth and qualify for the Plate. Unfortunately
for them they could not change their mini run
of form in the next phase as they went out to
DHFC (who went on to win the Plate).
At
the 2017 Barcelona Fives they entered 2 squads
as T Bashers and P Slayers. The P Slayers team
won 2 and drew 1 of their 7 group games as they
finished in 5th position with a haul of 7 points.
They qualified for the Trophy competition and
beat Tysers, 2-1, in the Quarter-Finals. They
then lost 1-0 to CBD Boys of Oman in the Semis.
T Bashers struggled and lost their first 6 games.
They finished on a high with a 1-0 win over Spanish
side Gintam but they missed out on qualification
for the knock-out phase.
After
a slow start here in Mallorca they turned their
form around and did it style. Against opposition
that had previously won a Cup and a Plate in our
events (under different names) they produced a
first class victory. Two goals from Dom Morgan
and a clean sheet to boot. 2-0 to Yac Club.
It
was 4th placed Burritos FC against 5 th placed
Purnell Youth in the final fixture of Round 3.
This was a chance for the victors to close in
on the teams above.
Purnell
Youth competed for the first time at the 2017
Amsterdam Fives and Sixes. They entered a team
into each competition. The Fives team drew the
group of death and lost their first 3 (including
to the eventual tournament winners). They finished
on a high with 4-3 and 6-2 wins to finish fourth
of 6 teams. They qualified for the Plate Quarter-Finals
where they lost to FC Potsdam in a 13-goal thriller.
The Sixes team struggled in another tough group
that also featured the eventual Sixes winners).
They finished 6th of 6 teams and were eliminated
at the group phase.
Today
they picked up a 1-1 draw and a 6-1 defeat. Their
opponents Burritos had picked up a 1-0 win and
a 1-0 loss. Matthew Lee was Burritos scorer in
Round 1 and he was on target again here in Round
3. The lead was doubled by Andrew Monaghan who
made it 2-0. A second clean sheet of the day for
William Noden meant it was 6 points from 9 for
Burritos FC – they moved up to second place.
