Ecuador 100 (Ecu)

After 39 games of football in the Open Age section we came down to the most important of them all. Game 40 – The 2018 Mallorca Tournament Cup Final.

The two teams set to do battle for the honour and glory of victory were Bar Maruru (Spain) versus Ecuador 100 (Ecuador).

The history of winners at our open age Mallorca events reads:

2011 Mallorca Tournament: Policia de Local de Palma (Spain)

2012 Mallorca Tournament: Cosegur Balear (Spain)

2013 Mallorca Fives: Grant Thornton (France)

2013 Mallorca Tournament: Inter Women (England)

2014 Mallorca Tournament: Cheesecake FC (England)

2015 Mallorca Tournament: Saipan FC (Ireland)

2016 Mallorca Tournament: Peluqueria Mariano (Spain)

2017 Mallorca Fives: Valecuatro (Spain)

2017 Mallorca Tournament: Wilmslow Whoppers (England)

2018 Mallorca Fives: Inter Hoddesdon (England)

2018 Mallorca Tournament: ??

Bar Maruru had been hugely impressive today – 6 wins and 1 draw today. 22 goals scored and 3 conceded. This was only their second tournament appearance but if you look at their history overall they had 11 wins, 1 draw and just the 1 defeat (1-0 in the Cup Semi-Finals in May). They had scored 36 and conceded just 6. They looked to be favourites.

Ecuador 100 were not out of it though and the Mallorca Tournament had been a breakthrough event for many teams. In 2013, L'Albiceleste/Grant Thornton picked up their first win. Cheesecake FC won one of our tournaments at the sixth attempt in 2014. In 2015, Ireland's Saipan FC also won their first eurofootballfives.com at the sixth attempt. Ecuador 100 now had the chance to make their breakthrough win – in their seventh appearance at a eurofootballfives.com tournament.

At the 2017 Mallorca Tournament they reached a Cup Final for the first time (as Son Gual). They lost 2-0 on that occasion – could they picking up Winners' medals today?

What we witnessed was a masterclass from Bar Maruru. They produced the biggest ever win in a Mallorca Cup Final in our events. We had seen Policia Local win 5-2 in 2012 and Inter Hoddesdon win 4-1 at the Mallorca Fives earlier this year. Bar Maruru eclipsed that to produce a 5-0 win.

The game was in the balance for long periods though. At half-time it was only 1-0 as Juanjo Vanrell produced his fourth goal of the tournament to separate the two teams. In the second half Pacquiao made it 2-0 and as Ecuador 100 chased goals to get back into it the game opened up and they were hit on the counter. As the third and fourth went it heads began to drop – understandable after putting so much effort in to reach this stage. Pacquiao went on to complete a hat-trick and Manuel Galvan Sastre finished his team's top scorer with 8 goals. He didn't share the top goalscorer award as he played 1 more game than the two joint winners.

We offer our consolations to Ecuador 100 who were absolutely superb and put in a joint career best performance at this 2018 tournament. They would have to settle for Runners-Up medals in the presentation.

Our congratulations go to Bar Maruru – worthy 2018 Mallorca Tournament Champions!

Thank you to all the teams who competed. We hope to see you all again at a tournament very soon.
