Group
B began with PVDC Eindhoven from taking on Yac
Club Reserves. PVDC Eindhoven were on debut in
our tournaments so we would get out first glimpse
of them in action soon.
Yac
Club first played at the 2016 Riga Tournament.
They were drawn in a tough group in Latvia but
enjoyed a good start with a 1-0 win over FC Maroon.
They then suffered a 2-1 setback to Zemniecki
but bounced back with a 6-1 win over The Crazy
Gang. Defeats followed to FK Prienai (Ltu) and
Melee FC (Eng) but they had done enough to finish
fourth and qualify for the Plate. Unfortunately
for them they could not change their mini run
of form in the next phase as they went out to
DHFC (who went on to win the Plate).
At
the 2017 Barcelona Fives they entered 2 squads
as T Bashers and P Slayers. The P Slayers team
won 2 and drew 1 of their 7 group games as they
finished in 5 th position with a haul of 7 points.
They qualified for the Trophy competition and
beat Tysers, 2-1, in the Quarter-Finals. They
then lost 1-0 to CBD Boys of Oman in the Semis.
T Bashers struggled and lost their first 6 games.
They finished on a high with a 1-0 win over Spanish
side Gintam but they missed out on qualification
for the knock-out phase. They enter a second squad
again here in Mallorca - Yac Club Reserves.
It
was the team on debut who got off to the perfect
start though. Martin Astley became their first
scorer in eurofootballfives.com competition. John
O'Gara made it 2-0 before Astley's second goal
completed a 3-0 opening victory.
Next
up was Fiorentina Turner 1 against the highly
experienced Ecuador 100. Having played as Son
Gual and Algaiga Golf previously, Ecuador 100
were making their seventh appearance at the Mallorca
Tournament.
They
enjoyed success on their previous appearance.
At the 2018 Mallorca Fives in May they finished
third in Group B with 2 wins and 2 draws from
their 5 games. In the Plate Semi-Finals they won
4-3 (v Jackson's Five) before securing a 4-1 win
in the Cup Final (v Multiple Scorgasms).
The
Mallorca-based team fell behind in this one as
Harry Boys put Fiorentina Turner 1-0 up. Ecuador
100 then turned the game on its head as Bryan
and Jon (true South American monikers) put their
team 2-1 up. Harry Boys earned his team a point
when he equalized for 2-2. He could have won it
for his side but instead of celebrating a hat-trick
he saw his effort cannon back off the post. Honours
even.
Game
3 of Group B saw Spanish team Purnell Youth 2
taking on 3 Lions FC. Purnell Youth had seen their
first team squad open up with a draw. Could they
match or better that result here?
3
Lions FC had a torrid time in the run up to this
event with injuries which meant they only had
4 starters in their touring squad. We had arranged
a loan signing of Augusto Bigliano to join them
and take them up to a full strength starting line-up.
How would they fare?
Well,
it was a good debut for Augusto Bigliano who played
in goal for his new side and he kept a clean sheet.
His opposite number, Brad Hurle, of Purnell Youth
2 was equally solid and kept a clean sheet of
his own.
It
was a steady start for both teams and a rare 0-0
in the tournament.
