The
first final of the day would see Coverton Road
and Son Gual come head-to-head in a bid to lift
the 2013 Mallorca Fives Plate Title.
It
was a first final for both these teams in eurofootballfives.com
action so could they celebrate their first final
by picking up the winners medals and leaving their
opposition to settle for the Runners-Up medallions.
With
six games of football already under their belts
the two teams would need to summon one last burst
of energy to ensure they would be picking up the
coveted winners trophy in the presentation. Both
teams came into the Plate Final on the back of
morale-boosting wins against higher-placed teams
in the group stages and both teams had turned
around a half-time Semi-Final defeat to reach
this stage.
The
game started off at quite a pace and with some
intensity. After the early exchanges it was Son
Gual who took the lead through Miguel Pol. The
game reached half-time and still it was just the
one goal that separated the two teams.
In
the second half both teams were tiring and Son
Gual seemingly moreso. They were without subs
and their legs must have felt heavy. They defended
well and ran their hearts out for the cause. Coverton
Road were able to ring the changes with their
substitutes and pressed hard for an equalizer.
It was ultimately elusive though and the tired
legs of Son Gual had just enough energy left in
them, just enough to keep the lactic acid and
Coverton Road at bay.
We
congratulate Son Gual on a fine victory and a
fine run of 4 wins in 4 games to claim success.
We also bestow our commiserations on to Coverton
Road who had worked so hard to get this far. So
close but so cigar – we hope the Runners-Up medals
are some consolation. Winners medals next time
lads!
