We were now past the halfway stage at the 2013 Mallorca Fives and the teams really needed to press ahead to stake their qualification claims. The next game was arguably the most important to date as Grant Thornton met Policia Mallorca in a top of the table clash. A win for either would give them one foot in the Cup competition, a draw would be ok (and perfect for Skidmarks) whereas defeat would leave the losers with plenty to do.

Grant Thornton struck first as they had in every game so far. Fateh Bekhouche grabbed the opener before Thibault Kerouredan made it 2-0. Grant Thornton were leading 2-0 at the break and emerging as one of the favourites for this tournament.

They didn't have it all their own way though as Policia Mallorca grabbed a goal back for 2-1 from Jose Ignacio Bautista Buzon. There was still time for them to get this back and the game was on a knife-edge. Thibault Kerouredan's second goal of the game settled matters though and it finished Grant Thornton 3-1 Policia Mallorca.

It was a significant result for Grant Thornton as it guaranteed their Cup qualification (as Policia Mallorca and Skidmarks were due to meet in the last Round) so congratulations to them.

Policia Mallorca had a big task on their hands to keep up their 100% Cup qualification record.

With the above result there was a window of opportunity for L.I.T.S to make the Cup if they won their last two games and other results went in their favour. There was no room for error at this stage as they met the team immediately below them in the table, Son Gual.

Son Gual had played well today but only had the 1 point to show for their efforts. Could they change that in this game? Things were promising at half-time with the teams tied at 1-1. There were first goals of the day for John Briston for the English team and Jose Luis Rodriguez for the Spanish.

A draw would not help either massively but would suit L.I.T.S more in terms of securing a Plate qualification place. Son Gual knew a win would be massive as they would leapfrog their opponents into 4 th and that is exactly what happened as Miguel Pol's goal earnt his side a slender 2-1 victory.

It was tough for L.I.T.S as they had pushed each of their Spanish opponents very very close but ended up pointless from those fixtures. On another day they could easily be higher up the table.

The last fixture of Round 4 was Skidmarks versus Beating Chastards. For the team propping up Group A the games didn't get any easier- this time it was a 2-times Champion they had to contend with to try and earn their first points of the day.

Skidmarks were in ruthless mode though. They were fully aware with things close at the top and only 2 of the 3 challenging teams being able to qualify for the Cup that goal difference was likely to be an important factor. Unfortunately for Beating Chastards they were hunting out not only victory but a big win.

Skidmarks were getting their wish too as Luke Hatfield, Seb Palin and Iain Congdon all scored in the first half to put them in control. There work was not done though as Neil Taylor and Luke Hatfield again polished off the 5-0 win. It was a win that put them on top of Group A.
