With
the result above, the match between Coverton
Road and Team Extreme took on extra significance.
It was always going to be an important game
but with the teams now in 3rd and 4th, each
would need a win to put a Cup qualification
place in their own hands. A draw would leave
them in 3rd and 4th plus East Compton Eagles
would have a game in hand. The onus was therefore
on the teams to win it.
This
was a match that we would not like to have predicted
the outcome pre-kick-off and at half time we
were none the wiser on where the points were
going. A draw was the most likely result as
we were tied at 0-0.
We
were to get goals in this game though as Dave
Cole (recovered from an earlier “fitness” concern
on the coach to the ground) put Team Extreme
ahead 1-0. What could Coverton Road do to get
back in this game? The pressure was on and they
handled it admirably equalizing through Tom
Augarde.
Coverton
Road were not level for long as not long after
the restart Dave Cole restored the Team Extreme
lead and with it the decisive 3rd goal of the
game. The win put them top of Group B, temporarily
at least – East Compton Eagles still had to
play. Coverton Road had an outside shot of the
Cup but the Plate was looking more likely for
them now.
