The first game in Round 4 saw S.I.T.S take on FC Miracle. It was a vital game for both teams as a win would lift S.I.T.S into mid-table but a draw/defeat would make life very difficult for them going into the final round of fixtures.

FC Miracle had mixed fortunes so far today as their record read Loss-Win-Draw but they were getting stronger ominously for S.I.T.S. This game was one of the highlights of the tournament – certainly for atmosphere and crowd participation. Nearly all the spectators were glued to Pitch B to watch this game.

The fun and games centred around the S.I.T.S number 14 Andy Bradley who was surely the most popular player of the tournament. His Ronaldo-esque approach to free-kicks, kick-offs drew cheers from the surrounding galleries. For one kick-off he embarked on a long run-up similar to that of a 1980's West Indian fast bowler with the crowd chants reaching a crescendo as he was about to thunder the ball goalwards…..until a cheeky little lay-off had the spectators howling in laughter.

It was a sideshow to what was a great game in its own right. It was an evenly matched contest with FC Miracle hungry for the win and making all the running. S.I.T.S were solid in defence though and mid-way through the second-half it was still 0-0. Cometh the hour, cometh the man for FC Miracle and it was Laszlo Zsolt with a quick double to seal the points. The first goal particularly was superb showing quick feet to move the ball from his right to his left before unleashing an unstoppable finish. Final score, 2-0 to the Hungarians.

With the result above, the match between Coverton Road and Team Extreme took on extra significance. It was always going to be an important game but with the teams now in 3rd and 4th, each would need a win to put a Cup qualification place in their own hands. A draw would leave them in 3rd and 4th plus East Compton Eagles would have a game in hand. The onus was therefore on the teams to win it.

This was a match that we would not like to have predicted the outcome pre-kick-off and at half time we were none the wiser on where the points were going. A draw was the most likely result as we were tied at 0-0.

We were to get goals in this game though as Dave Cole (recovered from an earlier “fitness” concern on the coach to the ground) put Team Extreme ahead 1-0. What could Coverton Road do to get back in this game? The pressure was on and they handled it admirably equalizing through Tom Augarde.

Coverton Road were not level for long as not long after the restart Dave Cole restored the Team Extreme lead and with it the decisive 3rd goal of the game. The win put them top of Group B, temporarily at least – East Compton Eagles still had to play. Coverton Road had an outside shot of the Cup but the Plate was looking more likely for them now.

We mentioned East Compton Eagles had a game in hand and that was up next in the final game of Round 4 – East Compton Eagles versus Sportsman Arenal. The Eagles had a chance to regain their 2 point lead at the top with a win, a draw would be enough due to goal difference but leave things tight and a defeat even tighter.

Sportsman Arenal had been tough contenders thus far but were still looking for their first win – 2 draws and a 1-goal defeat had stunted their progress. If they could find their first win here they could move up to 4th and even have an outside punt at Cup qualification themselves.

It was East Compton Eagles who drew first blood as Sean McCullough scored his 4th of the day. Diego Medines then scored one of the best goals of the tournament with a bicycle kick to bring the game back to 1-1.

Sportsman Arenal were heading for their 3rd draw in 4 games and that's how it finished. The draws were hurting them. For East Compton Eagles the draw was not the end of the world but a win would have made things much more comfortable for them going into the final round of fixtures – they were top on goal difference.
