On
Pitch B we had the two teams occupying the mid-table
positions in third and fourth position. Realistically,
there was a top 3 and bottom 3 emerging.
12
months ago Alea Iacta Est opened up with a 2-0
loss to eventual champions Colonel Getafe. They
got their first point on the board with a 1-1
draw against Krwiodawcow Cracovii before a narrow
1-0 loss to 2012 champions, Skidmarks. Another
defeat (2-1) followed to Moles Salah before
they finished their group campaign with a 5-0
win over TaHu of Finland. It meant they finished
in fifth position in the table and just 1 point
off qualification for the knockout phase. Today,
Alea Iacta Est were in 4th place and would realistically
be targeting the Plate to avoid elimination
again.
Barrymoore's
Swimming Club were targeting a fourth successive
Cup qualification. They would have their work
cut out as Sporting Armada and Cruz Del Sur
above them were showing no signs of weakness.
All they could do was keep winning and put points
on the board (they were also due to play Sporting
Armada in Round 5).
Barrymoore's
Swimming Club secured a crucial 1-0 victory
over Alea Iacta Est. The win was significant
for Barrymoore's Swimming Club, keeping their
title hopes alive and ensuring their place in
the knockout stages (although which competition
was still to be decided). The only goal of the
match came in the first half, with Ryan Reed
scoring his fourth goal of the tournament. His
strike proved to be the decisive moment, showcasing
his ability to find the back of the net when
it mattered most.
Defensively,
Barrymoore's Swimming Club were solid again,
with goalkeeper Tsvetan Nikolov delivering a
second consecutive clean sheet (and third overall).
For Alea Iacta Est, the defeat meant they would
drop to fifth place in the table at just the
wrong time.
