Group B began with Iguana Time versus Cruz Del Sur.

The 2024 Krakow Trophy saw a welcome return for Cruz Del Sur. Their last appearance was at the 2019 Amsterdam Fives before the Covid hiatus. They had two teams in Amsterdam. The Cruz Del Sur team were brilliant in the group phase going unbeaten with 4 wins and 1 draw. They scored 12 goals, conceded just 1 and were the second ranked team going into the Cup knockout. Their run ended there as Springfield A defeated them 3-0. The Cruz Del Surely team didn't fare quite so well in the group stage as they finished 4th in the table but managed to qualify for the Plate. They found their feet with a 7-3 mauling of Rothmans in the QF before a 1-1 draw in the SF against FC Dwaze Zaken. They won 5-4 on penalties to book their place in the Plate Final where they defeated AFC FYM 3-2 to collect the trophy and medals.

The opening match of Group B in Krakow saw Iguana Time and Cruz Del Sur share the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Cruz Del Sur started strong and took the lead early in the first half through Sam Cassidy, who expertly slotted home to put his team 1-0 up. Iguana Time, however, quickly responded, although not in the way they had planned. A bit of Cruz Del Sur misfortune led to an own goal as goalkeeper Ashley Hamilton's clearance hit the back of his own man and rebounded into the empty net. The teams went into half-time tied. The second half was a tense affair, with both sides pressing for a winner. Cruz Del Sur came closest, but Iguana Time held firm, showing good resilience to keep them at bay. Despite a few late chances for both teams, the final whistle blew with the score still level at 1-1.

The first game on Pitch B in Group B was Alea Iacta Est versus Sporting Armada.

Alea Iacta Est were victorious here in Krakow in 2022. They made a superb start with 3-0 wins over Bure Park Seniors and Podgorze. It got even better when they defeated FC Dad's Club, 7-1. They ended the group campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Thursday Veterans. It meant 3 teams were locked on 9 points but Alea Iacta Est had the best goal difference and claimed the Group B victory. They drew Galbarnia in the Semi-Finals and secured a superb 3-1 victory to set up an all-Poland Cup Final versus Thursday Veterans. Alea Iacta Est went 2-0 up before finding themselves 3-2 down. They recovered to level the match at 3-3 and then secure a last gasp winner to take the title, 4-3.

Their opponents, Sporting Armada, represented tough opponents as they'd reached a Cup Final in our events before (more on that later). Sporting Armada kicked off their Group B campaign in Krakow with a solid 2-0 victory over Alea Iacta Est. The match was well-contested, but Sporting Armada's efficiency in front of goal proved the difference.

Ethan McCreight opened the scoring in the first half with a composed finish, putting Sporting Armada 1-0 up and giving them the early advantage. Alea Iacta Est battled hard to get back into the game, but Sporting Armada's defence remained resolute, keeping their opponents at bay as Paul Oliver kept a clean sheet.

In the second half, Matt Horlock doubled Sporting Armada's lead, securing the win. His goal capped off a well-executed performance, leaving Alea Iacta Est with little chance to mount a comeback. Sporting Armada's organized play and clinical finishing ensured a strong start to their tournament with a 2-0 victory.

Next up was Just Here 40 Krak versus Barrymoore's Swimming Club. These two teams had crossed paths before at the 2017 Lisbon Tournament (Just Here 40 Krak were playing as Retainers Academy in Lisbon).

Barrymoore's Swimming Club got off to a flyer in Lisbon with 3-0 wins over PMPCAR, ADP Netherlands and Retainers Academy before wins against Brewin Dolphin (1-0), Cruz Del Sur B (4-0) and Leave It FC (2-0). They finished the group phase with a 0-0 draw against Indoorsoccer as they won Group A. In the Cup Quarter-Finals they drew Cruz Del Sur A and went out in a surprise result.

In Krakow, we were to get the same result as we did in Lisbon 7 years ago, 3-0. Jay Lambert and Ryan Reed put Barrymoore's in control at the break. A third goal from Jason James in the second period clinched victory. This was their 4 th eurofootballfives.com appearance and victory here meant they had won their opening game in all 4 of those events. Just Here 40 Krakow will need to regroup as they look to improve in their next fixture.
