After 35 games of football we came down to the big one. Game 36 – The 2024 Krakow Trophy Cup Final. Colonel Getafe were the current holders but they were soon to lose that crown to one of Ball Bashers or Big Time Krakow.

Both of these teams had enjoyed success before. Ball Bashers were aiming to add Krakow success to their 2022 Amsterdam Sixes win. Big Time Krakow were looking to regain the title they won here in 2017 and also the Gdansk title they won in 2019. They won the Plate here 12 months ago but were looking to upgrade to a shiny Cup trophy.

Let's have a look at the two team's record to preview the action:

Ball Bashers (Eng)

Best appearance to date: 2022 Amsterdam Sixes champions.

Record today: Played 6, Won 4, Drawn 1, Lost 1.

Goal difference today: 11-4 (+7)

Current unbeaten run: 1 game.

Today's top goalscorer: Mati Ortiz (6)

Clean sheets: 2

Big Time Krakow (Pol)

Best appearance to date: 2017 Krakow Trophy & 2019 Gdansk Tournament champions.

Record today: Played 6, Won 4, Drawn 1, Lost 1.

Goal difference today: 6-4 (+2)

Current unbeaten run: 1 game.

Today's top goalscorer: Reda Hocine (4)

Clean sheets: 3

These two teams had met at the end of the group phase and on that occasion Big Time Krakow won it 1-0. Ball Bashers had already qualified and won the group at that stage so maybe they'd subconsciously taken their eye off the ball. If that was the case, they would certainly have full focus going into this Cup Final.

The two teams treated us to a very entertaining game. The first half set the stage and the star of the show was Ben Williams. He scored twice with two very special strikes to put his team in command at the break. Big Time Krakow had kept three clean sheets in their three previous games that included games against Ball Bashers themselves and Group B winners Cruz Del Sur. So, it was a testament to the play of Ball Bashers that meant they'd fully earned a 2-0 lead at the change of ends.

It looked like Ball Bashers were in full control of this Cup Final as they maintained their two goal lead until mid-way through the second half. Out of nowhere, Reda Hocine pulled a goal back for Big Time Krakow. At 2-1 it was game on and the serene atmosphere at the start of the second half suddenly turned up a notch. Big Time Krakow suddenly believed they were back in this and Ball Bashers were suddenly showing signs of nerves. The watching crowd became more engaged and we certainly had a match on our hands.

Ben Williams then popped up when his team needed him most with another superb strike to make it 3-1 and complete his hat-trick. All the tension that had been building up had dissipated in an instant. Both teams now knew where the destination of this title was heading. It was Ben Williams 7th strike of the tournament with him and Mati Ortiz proving a thorn in the side of defences all days. The referee blew his final whistle to bring the 2024 Krakow Trophy to a conclusion and Ball Bashers could celebrate a fine victory.

Both teams can take pride in their performances, as they showcased their abilities throughout the tournament and reached the pinnacle of the competition. Our commiserations go to Big Time Krakow who were runners-up on this occasion but it had been a fantastic day's performance from them. It was now four European finals in four appearances (3 x Cup, 1 x Plate) which is a pretty good achievement. There was more to come from them for sure.

Our congratulations go to Ball Bashers on a historic moment by winning back-to-back titles. Any title win is a fantastic achievement but to win two on the bounce is superb. They became only the 8th team in 140 events to win their first two eurofootballfives.com appearances (also Olympic Phil Babb, Athletico Do Hollande, Skidmarks, ABC United, Big Time Krakow, Norfolk N Chance, Foot 130). Could they complete a hat-trick next time out?

If they could, they'd be only the second team to do so after Olympic Phil Babb who won their first 4 events with us (2008-2011). That's for the future though. For now, they had a Krakow title to celebrate and no doubt they would celebrate in style just as they had won this tournament in style!

Thank you to all the teams who competed – it was a fantastic day. We hope to see you all again at another eurofootballfives.com tournament very soon.
