The
first Plate Semi-Final saw DHL Prague Red chasing
their third Plate Final. Following finals in the
2008 Prague Masters and 2008 Barca Fives they
suffered defeats at this stage in both the 2009
Prague Masters and Prague Trophy. Would it prove
3 rd time lucky to make that hat-trick of Plate
Finals? Well, the first half against Sobieski
was looking good as two goals in the opening half
put them in pole position. Sobieski had no answer
and could not break the Czech defence to get back
into the game. The Czech's finished off a professional
job and were in Plate Final number 3 for them.
The
big question now was who would their opponents
be? Eagles Old Boys or JNJ Global Services. Eagles
Old Boys were the last remaining English team
and were hoping to spoil the prospect of an all-Czech
final in Krakow . JNJ Global Services were clearly
pleased at beating one of their domestic rivals
in the quarters and would love to beat the other
DHL team in the final. There was one hurdle to
jump first and Eagles Old Boys were finding their
feet in this tournament. They were also finding
the way to goal and one man in particular was
finding the back of the net. Shahed Miah, as he
did in the quarter-final, put his side 1-0 up
and on that occasion the lead was wiped out before
half-time. Not this time though and when the teams
turned round Eagles Old Boys had maintained their
lead. The lead was to double in the second half
and it was Miah again for his third of the day
all but sealing his team's place in the final.
There was to be no addition to the scoring and
Eagles Old Boys would meet DHL Prague Red in the
final.
Our
commiserations to JNJ Global Services and Sobieski.
