Tree-Top
Tune FC were looking to avenge opening game defeat
and particularly a rough second half against PKG
when they took on El Studs Bilbao. Both teams
were looking for their first goal of the competition
and it was to be the home side on the card, Tree-Top
Tune FC, who opened their account first. Cordys
Mate (sounding like a runner at Aintree) was the
man to grab the goal and it was to prove a vital
goal. The goal was the only goal of the game and
earned all three points for his side. They moved
into second and left El Studs Bilbao in joint
third.
El
Studs Bilbao now had a really hard task facing
them if they wanted to make the Cup. They had
to beat PKG Real Estate who had scored 5 without
reply in their opening two games. Although they
had already qualified the Polish team showed no
signs of going easy on their opponents. The Poles
raced into a 3-0 lead in the break and showed
no mercy as they made it 4-0, 5-0 and finally
6-0 to leave their opponents shell-shocked. PKG
Real Estate had sent out a stark message to the
other 15 teams in the tournament with a 100% record,
11 goals scored and none conceded. They were surely
amongst the favourites for this event.
Given
the above result, it would mean a straight shoot-out
between Tree-Top Tune FC and Intermore FC for
Cup qualification. A win for either side would
mean qualification assured but a draw would see
the English team go through. Intermore FC had
played well so far but had found goals hard to
come by but that would have to change for them
to make the Cup. At half-time we were still none
the wiser on which of these two teams would qualify
with the teams level at 1-1. We were to witness
three more goals in the second half with Intermore
FC outgunning their opponents to secure a 3-2
victory. Paddy Ryan the hero scoring the crucial
match-winning goal to add to Antony Magee and
Paul Reid's earlier strikes.
Intermore
FC would claim second place at the expense of
Tree-Top Tune FC who would finish 3rd .
