The
tournament kicked off, as it so often does, with
Group A on Pitch A. Poland hosted the Czech Republic
in the opening fixture of the day and it was the
home side who burst out of the blocks. In the
opening half they hit the back of the net on three
occasions without reply to coast into a 3-0 lead.
A further two goals extended the lead and wrapped
up victory although DHL Prague Red were to score
a consolation through Rob Millan as the game finished
5-1 to the home team.
Simultaneously
on Pitch B we had an all England match up as Pimp
My Side FC, Cup Quarter-Finalists in the 2009
Prague Masters, took on debutants Eagles Old Boys.
As one-side as the opening game was this proved
to be a much closer encounter. At half-time the
two teams could not be separated with both goalkeepers
preserving their clean sheets. As the second half
drew on it looked increasingly like both teams
would earn a solid opening point. There was to
be a goal in the game though and when it came
it was Gary Lowery of Pimp My Side FC who wheeled
away in delight to leave a crestfallen Eagles
Old Boys with no reward for their efforts.
Pimp
My Side's reward for victory was a top of the
table clash against Wola with both teams looking
to make it two wins out of two. Whilst Wola had
cruised to their victory Pimp My Side had to battle
for their 3 points and they showed that battling
quality again as they stole into a first half
lead through Gary Lowery. In the second half Pimp
My Side FC went from strength to strength extending
their lead to 2-0 through Lowery again. Lowery
completed his hat-trick and made it 4 in 2 games
as Pimp My Side FC eventually finished 3-0 victors
to lead the group at the half-way stage.
