Eagles
Youth and DHL Prague Blue had both seen their
sister squads slip to opening game defeats in
Group A. One of them would avoid this fate at
the start of group C. In the opening half it looked
like that team would be Eagles Youth as Jon Payne
scored New Milton Eagles first goal of their tour.
They would not have their own way though as DHL
Prague Blue kept fighting but although Martin
Rehacek scored for the Czechs a second Jon Payne
goal meant the points went to England in a 2-1
victory.
The
second game in group C was Poland versus England
as Sobieski entertained Bristol Bridge Supporters.
Bristol Bridge Supporters were making their 2
nd eurofootballfives.com appearance after a debut
in Barcelona , November 2008. On that occasion
they finished 2 nd in a 5-team group before losing
2-1 to Spanish side Uxama in the Cup quarter-finals.
In keeping with that Barcelona appearance the
team sported Barcelona shirts in this tournament
and they lived up to that billing claiming opening
game victory with a 1-0 victory.
The
next game in group C was arguably the best (and
funniest of the tournament). It started in curious
fashion as a Sobieski own goal put Eagles Youth
1-0 up. Then, as Sobieski looked to hit back the
Eagles Youth keeper pulled off a great save to
give the Polish team a corner. As the keeper celebrated,
giving a rallying cry of c'mon to his team-mates
and supporters he failed to notice that Sobieski
had taken a quick corner. As he realized and turned
towards goal he did so to see the ball ricochet
off him into the back of the net for one own goal
each. There could have been further own goals
in this game and it was anybody's guess how this
game would finish. In the end it was Eagles Youth
who made it two consecutive victories in an entertaining
match. Shaun Miller and Chris Payne scoring the
Eagles goals.
