In
game 4 of Group A both teams were looking to put
opening match defeats behind them and looking
for a victory that would get them right back into
this group. Eagles Old Boys may well have been
trying to shake off the upset of last minute defeat
in their opening game and started the slower.
Dan Finlay and Alpha Diallo (making his eurofootballfives
debut for DHL Prague) both got on the scoresheet
in the opening period. It was a lead that was
to prove insurmountable and a Rupert Baltrock
goal meant a 3-0 win for the Czechs. The result
meant the Cup was game on.
Eagles
Old Boys went into their game with Wola having
to win with a 4-goal swing in goal difference
and hoping Pimp My Side FC would win their last
game in order to make the Cup. The task to win
and win handsomely was looking less likely as
the minutes ticked away. Both defences proving
solid and at half-time it was still 0-0. When
the deadlock was broken it was Fryderyk Ogoreu
of Polish side Wola who put the nail in the Eagles
Old Boys coffin and put them in the box seat for
Cup qualification.
Wola
would qualify as long as DHL Prague Red did not
win by 3 or more. It was going to be tough for
the Czech team against Pimp My Side FC who had
won 2 out of 2. There is history between these
two teams though, in the 2009 Prague Masters the
teams met and played out a 1-1 draw. The sides
looked evenly matched again as they turned round
at half-time still level at 0-0. DHL Prague Red
needed goals and they found the net through Rob
Millan's second goal in three games to end Pimp
My Side FC's 100% record. The 1-0 win was not
enough though as they missed out on the Cup on
goal difference.
Pimp
My Side FC qualified for the Cup as group winners
with 3 teams finishing on 6 points. Wola followed
them in second but DHL Prague Red will consider
themselves unlucky to only make the Plate with
two wins out of three. Eagles Old Boys would also
play in the afternoon Plate competition.
