Round 5 began with DePuy Blackpool and Maidenhead as fifth place met sixth place. DePuy Blackpool were running along at an average of 1 point per game. It was probable they would need more to qualify for the Cup. They had two games to go and 6 points would virtually assure them a place in the elite Cup competition.

Maidenhead had 3 games to go and they certainly had to win their final 3 games to have any chance of reaching the Cup for the third year in a row. They looked up against it but a first half goal from Richard Parkinson would give them hope. It was a towering back post header that split the teams at half-time.

DePuy Blackpool had already come from behind today (from 0-1 to 2-1 v JNJ Poland) and needed a similar feat now. Maidenhead were able to complete their first clean sheet of the day with Andrew Lewis shutting out DePuy Blackpool. It meant Maidenhead would get full value for Richard Parkinson's goal as they collected all 3 points.

JNJ Turkey were the next team on Pitch B against Leeds One United. It was first versus third with 6 points separating the two teams at kick-off although Leeds One United did have a game in hand. Win this, and their game in hand, and Leeds One United could join JNJ Turkey at the top. A win for JNJ Turkey however would virtually assure the Group B title.

Leeds One United may well have bad memories from playing JNJ Turkey as at last year's event in Bratislava the Turkish team knocked out the English team in the Cup Quarter-Finals. It was a resounding 7-0 win in Slovakia but this was a much closer game. The two teams reached half-time level at 0-0.

Although closer, JNJ Turkey still had the upper hand as they forged a second half lead through Serkan Kardesler. He was our top scorer in 2017 with 11 goals but this was his first of the day in 2018.

JNJ Turkey's run of successive victories in the group phase of our tournament was about to end though. They had won 8 games in a row since their last group game defeat. That run would end here as George Lazaro scored with a right foot thunder strike to make it 1-1 late in the game. It was a very good draw for Leeds One United.

Into Game 15 of Group B and there was still EDC2 and Actelion FC to complete Round 5 as the teams competed on Pitch C. There was much at stake for Actelion FC who currently occupied fourth position on 4 points but 2 points Leeds One United before kick-off. We have just seen Leeds One United gain a point so Actelion FC could go level with them. More importantly this would open up a 3 point gap on fifth place with 2 rounds to go.

For EDC2 it may have seemed the group was slipping away. However, Maidenhead had previously lost all their games and just picked up their first victory. Could EDC2 emulate them and pick up their first 3 points?

The game went with the form book that meant Actelion FC took a first half lead. It was only a narrow lead at 1-0 and they were helped out by a Simone Sogliani own goal. Actelion FC extended the lead to 2-0 after the break thanks to James Goodbrand. The Swiss then eased away from their opponents thans to Tang Duc and Davide Gruel both scoring.

Full time result, 4-0.
