With their first games under their belts it was Round 2 for most of the teams in Group A and time to settle in to the tournament. There was one team yet to begin their campaign and that was JNJ Russia. They would kick-off against Beeston Operation Leeds.

These two teams were yet to meet in the history of the tournament despite both appearing at each of the last two editions in Krakow 2016 and Bratislava 2017. Historically JNJ Russia had been the more successful with 2 tournament wins under their belts whereas Beeston Operation Leeds had qualified for the Plate each of the last 2 seasons.

Beeston Operation Leeds had won their first game and would no doubt come into this game with confidence. They competed well again but fell behind to a first half goal from Alexey Medvedev. It was the only goal of the first half.

The second half was equally close but there was to be no further addition to the score Anton Smirnov kept a clean sheet for JNJ Russia as they started off their pursuit of a third title with a solid opening victory.

Next up on Pitch A was JNJ High Wycombe versus DePuy Synthes Switzerland.

JNJ High Wycombe's most recent appearance was at the 2016 Krakow edition of the tournament. They finished fifth in their 7-team group with 2 wins and a draw from their 6 games. It meant qualification for the Plate where they went out in the Semi-Finals to Janssen Portugal (2-1). Compared to previous appearances it was a sub-par performance as they had qualified for the Cup on each occasion 2012 to 2015.

JNJ High Wycombe appeared to be back on form today as they romped to a 5-0 opening win. DePuy Synthes Switzerland were also victorious in Round 1 so this would be an intriguing contest – the winner would be leading Group A at the end of Round 2.

JNJ High Wycombe continued from where they left off in Round 1 – as did Rob Buckland. A first game hat-trick was followed by a first-half brace in this fixture. In the second half Paul Lynch added a third as JNJ High Wycombe were looking impressive. 2 games, 2 wins, 8 goals without reply.

To complete Round 2 we had Klopp & Co (Bel) versus EDC1 (Ire). This was a game between two teams who had suffered defeat in Round 1 and were looking to bounce back quickly.

Klopp & Co had a very successful debut at the 2017 JNJ Euro Soccer Tournament in Bratislava last year. They finished with 3 wins out 4 and secured second place in Group C. Their only defeat came against the eventual winners, Cilag Team 1. They won their Cup Quarter-Final 5-3 versus JNJ Pinewood before coming across Cilag Team 1 again in the Semi-Finals. The Swiss proved their nemesis as they lost to them for a second time.

In the first half here they were making amends for that opening game slip up. Maarten Sas scored their first goal of the day to afford his team a 1-0 lead at half-time. In the second half, Maarten Sas was on target again as doubled the lead for the Belgians. The result was put beyond doubt when Yannick Van Steyvoort opened his personal account to make it 3-0.

Jelle Van Steenbergen and his defence had the satisfaction of a clean sheet. It was a job well done for Klopp & Co.
