JNJ High Wycombe (Eng)

We began Round 7 with lots to play for with 6 of the teams still in action. The top 3 teams were already decided but we did not know in which order they would finish. A higher finish could have a potentially favourable impact on their knock-out campaign. The final Cup place was still in the balance but with JNJ High Wycombe and Klopp & Co in direct competition for this space.

Klopp & Co were in action against JNJ Russia. The Belgian team had to win and hope JNJ High Wycombe lost in order to qualify in fourth position via goal difference. JNJ Russia would become Group A winners if they could better the result of Beeston Operation Leeds.

The Group win looked a long way off at half time. Klopp & Co had put themselves in a great position though. Bert Meeus's second goal of the tournament and Yannic Van Steyvoort also bagged his second of the day. At 2-0 they were half-way there.

We reached full-time with the score still 2-0. It was a great win for Klopp & Co at a vital time. They now needed JNJ High Wycombe to slip up…..

Next up was EDC1 (Ire) versus Nordic Vikings (Scand). These two teams currently occupied 6th and 7th positions in the table. These two teams were playing for pride and a chance to avoid last place in the group.

It was 5 defeats for each team so far, EDC1 were currently above their opponents on goal difference (0-14) but were yet to score their first goal. Nordic Vikings were more potent in front of goal but had a more porous defence (3-18). Whoever won this would claim 6th position. If the game finished in a draw then EDC1 would secure that spot.

It was honours even at half-time. The teams were level at 1-1. Ross Tierney scored his team's opening goal of the day. Payraw Farhad was on target for Nordic Vikings.

In the second half we were to get a winner. Payraw Farhad scored his second goal of the game to give those supporting Sweden, Finland and Denmark something to cheer. Those supporting Ireland would have to wait for that first win.

The final thing to wrap up in Group A was Beeston Operation Leeds versus JNJ High Wycombe. At kick-off JNJ High Wycombe needed at least a point to unsure they would qualify for the Cup competition at the expense of Klopp & Co. They could even win the group with a victory (assuming JNJ Russia lost). A victory for Beeston Operation Leeds would see them champions (assuming JNJ Russia lost).

We arrived at half-time with the two teams level at 0-0. Should the game end this way, knowing that JNJ Russia had lost, then Beeston Operation Leeds would be crowned Group A winners and JNJ High Wycombe would also reach the Cup. It was probably a result that suited both teams but with all Round 7 games being played simultaneously they had no way of knowing.

We reached full-time and we were still level at 0-0. Both teams hopes of winning the 2018 JNJ Euro Soccer Tournament were very much alive.
