We began Round 6 with just 1 point separating the top 4 teams. One of those teams was DePuy Switzerland. They were at a disadvantage compared to the other top teams as they had played a game more. This would be their final group game and last chance to put points on the board.

The Swiss would no doubt fancy their chances against an EDC1 team who had so far played 4 and lost 4. Could the Irish grab a foothold in this tournament and gain some momentum as the knock-out phase approached?

The game went with the form book as DePuy Synthes Switzerland opened the scoring in the first half. Suryo Nedunkanal was the man to find the back of the net. After the interval, Abdoul-Aziz Traore scored his second goal of the tournament to wrap up all three points for his team.

It moved DePuy Synthes Switzerland on to 12 points – they would have to wait and see if they had done enough to qualify for the Cup.

Round 6 continued with JNJ High Wycombe versus JNJ Russia in a game with a lot of history over the years of the tournament. Previous results between these two teams reads as follows:

2012 Group C: JNJ Russia B 2-0 JNJ High Wycombe

2012 Cup QF: JNJ High Wycombe 3-1 JNJ Russia A

2013 Group A: JNJ Russia B 0-1 JNJ High Wycombe A

2013 Group B: JNJ Russia A 5-0 JNJ High Wycombe B

2013 Cup Final: JNJ Russia A 5-0 JNJ High Wycombe A

2014 Group A: JNJ Russia A 2-0 JNJ High Wycombe B

2014 Group B: JNJ High Wycombe A 2-0 JNJ Russia B

2015 Group C: JNJ High Wycombe B 1-1 JNJ Russia

2016 Group A: JNJ Medical Russia 4-1 JNJ High Wycombe

So, this represented the 10th meeting between the two teams with 5 wins to Russia, 3 to England and 1 draw so far.

Here in 2018 it was 0-0 at half-time. In the second half, it was JNJ Russia who struck first with Maxim Ustinov on target. Paul Lynch scored in the 2015 meeting between the two teams but he turned provider here. He produced the assist that saw Nigel Mpofu equalise for JNJ High Wycombe.

JNJ Medical would claim all 3 points though as Andrey Sheremetyev scored the winning goal and send his team top.

Beeston Operation Leeds started the round in third position but results of the games on pitches A and B would mean they were heading for fourth position if they lost this. With Klopp & Co just behind them their place in the Cup was on the line. However, if they could win this game they would qualify with a game to spare.

Their opponents Nordic Vikings were in a downward spiral having lost their last two games 6-0 and 5-0. They were much improved here though and their performance was more reminiscent of their close opening two games (although they still proved fruitless). We had 3 goals to enjoy in the first half with Beeston Operation Leeds edging it 2-1. Rick Kainth was yet to score today but he scored twice in the opening period. Erik Corman scored the Nordic Vikings goal that kept his team in it.

After the break Beeston Operation Leeds extended their lead. Lewis Butler and Harry Jones were in amongst the goals whilst Erik Corsman scored his second of the game for the combined Scandanavian side.

Final score, 4-2.
