The
first final of the day was the Wooden Spoon Final
as the two teams would battle it out for the coveted
prize of literally a wooden spoon!
The
two teams on show were Fred's Fairys and FC Auslander.
The two teams both emerged from the Group Phase
with a similar record of no wins and 4 defeats
but when you looked at for and against records
there was a glaring difference. Both teams had
scored 5 goals but the defensive record of FC
Auslander was superior conceding 12 goals to the
22 conceded by Fred's Fairys. Could this be the
difference in the Final?
Often
the Wooden Spoon Final's provide some of the most
entertaining games of our tournaments and this
one didn't disappoint. Often it's the carefree
attitude of the times and often the timing of
the Final means there are plenty of spectator's
cheering the teams on from the sideline creating
a cracking atmosphere. Today both were present
and we had a belter.
It
was 1-1 at half-time and then 3-3 at full-time
as there were goals galore. We were through to
Golden Goal extra time and there were plenty of
chances for either team but the one that counted
was the one that fell to Sean Randall of Fred's
Fairys who decided the tie.
It
was really tough on FC Auslander who had lost
by the odd goal for the third time today and missed
out by such a narrow margin. Well done to Fred's
Fairys as winners of the 2014 Berlin Fives Wooden
Spoon.
