The
2014 Berlin Fives Plate Final would be contested
by Deportivo Dooradoyle (Ire) and Scandittack
FC (Ger).
This
time last year Ireland's Saipan FC ended up empty
handed after Plate Final defeat so there was revenge
to seek for their countrymen for Deportivo Dooradoyle.
Deportivo Dooradoyle were no strangers to eurofootballfives.com
Plate Finals with defeat in the 2011 Amsterdam
Fives Final and then two wins at the 2013 Barcelona
Fives in the Plate and the Trophy for the two
teams they entered. They would be hoping for more
of the Barcelona and less of the Amsterdam today.
Scandittack
FC had done superbly today with the bare minimum
5 players all day. So, to keep up a challenge
over six games without the luxury of substitutes
was a special one. Could they summon up one last
ounce of effort for a 7 th time today and take
glory?
The
first half was a cagey affair and there was little
to choose between the two teams. The closest we
came to a goal was when Daud Zulfacar hit the
post for Scandittack FC. The second half was more
of the same with largely a midfield battle but
Scandittack FC probably edging it, pushing forward
a little more and certainly creating the better
chances. They hit the post again and forced a
good save from William Quirke in the Deportivo
Dooradoyle goal. In the latter stages Dooradoyle
did have a golden opportunity but spurned it.
The full time whistle went and still no score,
0-0.
In
Golden Goal extra time there was an early opportunity
for Ugur Hurmaci who surged out of his goal and
struck a great effort from distance that took
a deflection and was well saved by William Quirke.
That's as close as we got though and it would
be down to penalties.
Deportivo
Dooradoyle had been here before in Barcelona 2013
as they beat Drunk Perfect (Spa) 2-1 on spot-kicks.
Scandittack FC were to shoot first in this shoot-out
and took the early initiative by converting for
a 1-0 lead. Then one man came to the fore and
carried his team to victory – Ugur Hurmaci.
Hurmaci
saved the first Dooradoyle penalty before stepping
up to score Scandittack FC's second penalty for
a 2-0 lead. Deportivo Dooradoyle had to score
their second penalty to survive but Hurmaci saved
again and it was all over!
We
send our commiserations to Deportivo Dooradoyle
but present you with the 2014 Berlin Fives Plate
Winners – Scandittack FC.
