Round 3 started with an important fixture between Deportivo Dooradoyle and Sturm Holzwurm. The Irish team had 1 win and 1 loss to their name but if they could put another tick in the win column they would join Hasanheide Hotspur at the top of Group C.

For Sturm Holzwurm they would hope to build on the point they had earned in the previous game. They currently sat joint fourth but at the foot of the table via goal difference. This game proved to be a very closely matched contest with little between the two teams.

We were to enjoy three goals in the game and it was Deportivo Dooradoyle who emerged victorious by the odd goal in three. Their twin strikeforce from the opening game combined again as David Daly and Wayne Wallace were the matchwinners. Deportivo Dooradoyle were joint top.

For Sturm Holzwurm it was disappointment to lose so narrowly as they failed to improve their league position. The consolation was a goal for their captain, Lorenzo.

The next scheduled fixture was It's Back versus Doddsy Stag B. It's Back were slowly improving – after opening game defeat they had secured a draw. If they could continue that progression with a win they would move into third position and relegate their opponents in this game into fourth.

For Doddsy Stag B, a return to winning ways for them would see them move into a three-team tie at the top of the table on six points. There was a great deal at stake for the two sides.

The first blow was struck Jamie Hall as he gave It's Back a 1-0 lead. When the second half that lead was still intact but not for long as Ian Wallace levelled the scores at 1-1. James Burrows restored the lead at 2-1 and it looked like that would earn their first win of the day. Daniel Potter had other ideas though as he grabbed another equalizer for Doddsy Stag B. Final score, 2-2.

It was a draw that didn't help It's Back too much as they stayed in fourth position. For Doddsy Stag B it was a point that got them a little closer to the top two but they remained in third place.

Hasanheide Hotspur were the only team left in Group C with a 100% record and they took that record into their third game against Sturm Holzwurm. It was top versus bottom and Hasanheide Hotspur were favourites.

For Sturm Holzwurm it was a final game to flex their muscle and stake a claim for the Plate competition. A win would see them go joint third (temporarily at least). A draw would keep things going down to the wire by putting them level with It's Back in fourth but a defeat consign them to fifth position and the Wooden Spoon competition.

We expected a win for Hasanheide Hotspur but instead it was Sturm Holzwurm who lead at the interval courtesy of Lorenzo's second strike in as many games. If the result stayed the same at full-time the door would be open for Deportivo Dooradoyle and Doddsy Stag B at the top of the table.

Hasanheide Hotspur stepped it up in the second half though and equalized. They then went ahead and never looked back as they went on to claim what looked to be a convincing 5-1 win in the end. Their 100% record was still in place!

Deportivo had started the day well with a win before a defeat. They had returned to winning ways in the last game and as a result were sitting in second place. There was only one team who could prevent them reaching the Cup competition and that was their opponents in this game Doddsy Stag B. Doddsy Stag B currently sat two points behind the Irish team so knew only a win would be good enough to guarantee their passage into the Cup.

We'd seen a mixed bag of results for Doddsy Stag B with a win, loss and draw. They were to get off to a good start in this game as they lead 1-0 at half-time – just the result they needed. Sean O'Donnell then made it 1-1 in the second half to put Deportivo Dooradoyle level – just the result they needed. Doddsy Stag B reclaimed the lead at 2-1 but Deportivo Dooradoyle just wouldn't go away as Patrick Costelloe levelled at 2-2.

At the moment it looked like Deportivo Dooradoyle would be going through to the Cup and Doddsy Stag B the Plate. It was end to end stuff and Doddsy Stag B hit the bar twice – it looked as if the goal they needed was going to prove elusive. That was all to change though as Doddsy Stag B scored the crucial fifth and final goal of the game to win it 3-2. Neil Barratt (2) and Ben Surr were their goalscoring heroes. It was a superb game of football.

So, all that left us with was It's Back against Hasanheide Hotspur to end proceedings in Group C. It's Back had a free game in a sense as they could finish no worse or better than 4th due to the above result. The above result also meant that Hasanheide Hotspur had qualified for the Cup and also won the Group C title with a game to spare. It was their second Group C title in as many years (to add to their Group A title in 2012).

So, the pressure was off for the two teams and Hasanheide Hotspur in particular seemed to enjoy it racing into a 4-0 half-time lead. It's Back were more competitive after the break as Jonny Amos (first in Europe) and Geoff Carter got on the scoresheet but they could not prevent a 5-2 defeat.

Rory Kierans (2), Wayne Regan, Kian Fleming and Anton Bullen scoring the Hasanheide goals that saw them finish with a maximum 12 points and a 100% record.
