Plate Semi-Final time and things were getting interesting. First up was Stadtrandkicker versus Saipan FC. Stadtrandkicker had gone through a grueling Quarter-Final to reach this stage and were already at their most advanced stage in eurofootballfives.com competition – could they go one stage further.

Saipan FC were now moving through the gears and in their last two games had scored 12 without reply. They were certainly the form team in the Plate and this rich vein of form showed no signs of abating as they quickly turned their tally of 12 goals in 2 games to 15 goals in 2.5 games as Julian Cornelius bagged a brace and Barry Lysaght added another captain's goal (does he score anything else?).

At 3-0 Saipan FC had pretty much wrapped up the tie before Stadtrandkicker had chance to play their football. Maybe the long protracted Quarter Final had taken it's toll but for today we had to say goodbye to them. It was great to meet Thomas Theel and his team once again and we very much hope they can join us next season.

The second Semi-Final was an encounter between Team Geek and SV Zoo. The two teams were both on good runs of form going 3 games unbeaten and 2 games unbeaten respectively with 4 wins in those 5 games. SV Zoo were the last remaining hope for German glory in the Plate.

With the game level at 0-0 there was some early controversy as a melee at the near post resulted in Ben Potter putting Team Geek ahead for close range as the SV Zoo keeper threw himself at the ball to block it. The keeper injured himself in the process as Potter forced the ball home. The referee disallowed the goal. From our vantage point it looked as if the goal should have stood with the keeper having just one hand on the ball and it wasn't in his grasp. The referee thought otherwise and chalked the goal off. Fortunately, after a little delay the SV Zoo goalkeeper was ok to continue.

It did not take too much longer before Ben Potter put Team Geek ahead and there was no dispute over this strike. Team Geek were looking well up for this now and they had the momentum with them. Although SV Zoo scored through Tobias Krenz's 4th goal of the day they would not get the chance to add to their tally as Michael French goal ensured a 2-1 victory for Team Geek.

SV Zoo's quest to add the Berlin Fives Plate to their Krakow Trophy success last year was over. They have mentioned that they may compete in Krakow again in September – we sincerely hope they can join us.
