Last but not least, we come to Group D where the group began with Cheesecake FC versus DHL Prague White. Cheesecake FC is arguably the strongest team to have played in our tournaments without victory. The fact they have not won is down to the strength of their opposition. They made their debut in the 2010 Prague Masters in a field which also featured 3 past winners – Lozenetz City (Bul), Kehar Club (Cze) and Olympic Phil Babb (Eng). They met the latter in the Cup Semi-Finals and after a fine 3-3 draw went out on penalties. They then played in the 2011 Algarve Open which also featured 3 past winners – Goldsmith Williams and 9 Nana Budds (both UK) and Dutch side and defending champions Athletico Do Hollande. They met the latter in an epic final in front of a great crowd and sensational effort – unfortunately for them they were on the wrong end of a 3-2 scoreline. In the 2012 Mallorca Tournament they were again in a massively strong line-up that fielded 5 past winners – Inter Women, FC Radbroke, Olympic Phil Babb, Goldsmith Williams & Policia Mallorca. They went further in this tournament than any of those teams but lost 5-1 in the Cup Semi-Finals to a strong Cosegur Balear team.

We've seen the introduction of DHL Prague in Group A. The White squad was the pick of the teams in last year's Berlin tournament going unbeaten in the group phase before a Cup Quarter-Final exit. The DHL Prague Red squad was expected to be the stronger squad today but the White team equipped themselves well in this opening game.

There was just the one goal in it, Mark Hignett scored it and Cheesecake FC secured a solid 1-0 victory.

Match 2 in Group D saw SV Zoo meet SLFN Z . SV Zoo were playing their first eurofootballfives.com tournament on home soil having competed in the 2012 Krakow Trophy and 2013 Plate Champion of Champions in Budapest. In Krakow they were successful on debut winning the Plate competition. As recently as the 11 th May they finished 4 th in the Plate Champion of Champions in Budapest.

SLFN Z were the last of 3 SLFN teams to get their tournament challenge started. Their other two teams had done ok but had found life a little difficult. SLFN Z were proving to be the most successful of the three teams in the early stages.

Despite two goals from Stefan “der SFL” Fricke-Liebig for SV Zoo it was the travelling team who emerged victorious 5-2 thanks largely to a hat-trick from Dimitry Tarlet plus goals from Shane Watson and Jenk Sakalli. It was a superb start for them.

The final team to get underway in Group D was No Janesy No. The team were travelling as part of a stag weekend and came up against Cheesecake FC for their opening fixture. It was a tough proposition at the best of times but when hungover was an even tougher ask.

Cheesecake FC were their usual professional selves and edged the opening period 1-0 with Mark Hignett (2010 Prague Masters top goalscorer) netting for the second game in a row. After the break Cheesecake FC stretched the lead to 2-0 and there was no coming back for No Janesy No as James Ingley (2), Justin Rees and Wes Armstrong all scored.

The 5-0 win sent Cheesecake FC to the summit of Group D.

DHL Prague White were next in action against SV Zoo as the Czech Republic met Germany. Both teams lost their opening games to English opposition and needed to turn defeat into points to make progress in Group D.

It was a pretty even game that saw the two teams enter half-time level at 1-1 as goals from David Plichta (DHL Prague White) and Tobias Krenz (SV Zoo) meant all was to play for in the second half.

The second half produced more of the same as the teams shared the goals again with David Janecek (DHL Prague White) and Tobias Krenz scoring again to produce a final result of 2-2.

Only time would tell if this was a point gained or two points lost in the final tables. For now, it would probably be considered two points lost if the teams had Cup aspirations.

The game that brought us to the halfway stage of Group D was SLFN Z and No Janesy No. SLFN Z had started off in fine form notching up a debut victory. If they could match that in this game then they would join Cheesecake FC on the top of the table.

SLFN Z started off in game 2 where they left off in game 1 and quickly established a 2-0 lead by half-time. Dimitry Tarlet scored his 4 th goal in 2 games before a Chris Janes own goal doubled the lead – was this the origin of the No Janesy No name? Probably not but appropriate nonetheless.

No Janesy No were staring down the barrel of two defeats in a row until D'mitri Zaprzala reduced arrears to 2-1 and it was game on. The comeback was on but it couldn't be completed as SLFN Z held on to their lead and took all 3 points.

It was a great result for SLFN Z. Although we were only half-way through the group, Cheesecake FC and SLFN Z had pulled away from their opponents.
