Two groups down, two to go as we turn our attentions to Group C. The first game saw Saipan FC drawn against SLFN X.

Berlin was to be Saipan FC's 4 th eurofootballfives.com appearance. On their first two outings they finished Plate Runners-Up in the 2011 Prague Masters (narrowly via Golden Goal) and Cup Runners-Up in the 2012 Barcelona Fives (narrowly via Golden Goal). Their 3rd appearance was in the group format of the Plate Champion of Champions Tournament where they finished in 3rd place – just 3 points off glory. Back to the league/knock-out format of Berlin they will hope to avoid those narrow Golden Goal exits!

SLFN X were on debut and so we eagerly awaited our first glimpse of their footballing credentials. At the final whistle it was to be Saipan FC who benefitted from a narrow scoreline on this occasion as Cormac McLoughlin's goal was the solitary strike and they began with a win.

Match 2 in Group C saw the first of two German teams in the group, Scandittack FC, begin their campaign against English side Moorsie's Marvels. Both sides were on debut so we have no history to draw on in order to preview the game. Moorsie's Marvels were on a stag weekend though and there looked to be some sore heads on the coach to the tournament.

The hangovers didn't help Moorsie's Marvels and the fact that Scandittack FC started quickly and played some great football also didn't help Moorsie's Marvels. The combined result was the biggest win of the day, 11-0.

There was two hat-tricks to celebrate – Pierre Magnusson (3) and Niclas Carlsson (4) with two goals for Karl Flittner and one each for Michael Kunde and Niccolo Panolci.

It was a great start for the Scandittack FC and disappointment for Moorsie's Marvels.

Hasanheide had sat patiently during the first two games but they would begin their 2013 Berlin Fives challenge next up on Pitch C against Saipan FC. Hasanheide Hotspur debuted in the 2012 Berlin Fives with 3 squads – Bulls, Donkeys and Camels. The Camels and The Bulls both qualified for the Cup with the former going through as unbeaten Group A champions. Both teams exited at the Quarter-Final level. For 2013 they bring a more concentrated pool of talent in one team.

Saipan FC came into the game on the back of victory and would have to work very hard to make that 2 wins out of 2. They found themselves 2-1 down at the break as Anton Bollen and Richie Hanley outgunned Saipan's strike from Jonny Royds.

At full time Hasanheaide Hotspur had just enough left in the tank to see out victory with Nathan Kumar scoring what proved to be the winner. Julian Cornelius's first goal of the day could not prevent defeat for Saipan FC. Final score, 3-2.

SLFN X started life in Group C with a narrow defeat and so they probably didn't want to find a team who had just won 11-0 stood in their way. That is what faced them as they met Scandittack FC.

Scandittack FC found SLFN X a much tougher proposition and when we reached half-time there was to be just the goal separating the teams. Scandittack FC held a slender 2-1 advantage courtesy of goals for Pierre Magnusson and Karl Flittner. For SLFN X Taurean Bryan scored their first goal of the day and they were very much in this match.

With the game so delicately poised the next goal was always going to crucial. Could SLFN X get level or could Scandittack FC extend their lead and seal the points. If you were a Scandittack FC supporter it would be you celebrating as Michael Kunde put his team 3-1 up.

It was a second win for Scandittack FC who lead the way in Group C. For SLFN X it was another narrow defeat but there was two games left to grab their first points.

Moorsie's Marvels had the chance to put first game nerves / hangovers / jitters etc behind them when they played Hasanheide FC. The German ex-pats team had begun well though with a win over Saipan FC so it would be another tough fixture for the Marvels.

Gareth Joyce set the tone early for Hasanheide Hotspur putting his team ahead early on before captain Rory Kierans made it 2-0. Richie Hanley made it 3-0 before Joyce scored again for 4-0 at half-time. Hanley got the scoreboard ticking after half-time before Kierans grabbed his second of the game. Anton Bollen then grabbed his second goal in as many games before Anselm Coen put the icing on the cake for an 8-0 win.

It meant that at the half-way stage in Group C the table looked very healthy for the local sides. For Moorsie's Marvels it was their second defeat in a row and second against German opposition. English and Irish teams awaited so maybe they would fare better against them rather than the nation of the current Champions League holders.
