The Depo Allstars (Ire)

16:20 on Saturday 19th October, Barcelona – where were you for the last eurofootballfives.com Plate Final of the 2013 season as JF & The Pullbacks met The Depo Allstars. It was England versus Ireland and with Deportivo Dooradoyle winning the Trophy it could be a second success for Ireland today.

JF & The Pullbacks

JF & The Pullbacks were appearing in their first eurofootballfives.com Final having reached 2 Quarter-Finals (Plate in 2011 Valencia Fives, Cup in 2012 Krakow Trophy) and 1 Semi-Final (Plate also in 2012 Krakow Trophy). They had performed superbly today with 4 victories, 1 draw and just the 1 defeat. They had scored 10 goals and conceded just 3 along the way.

The Depo Allstars

The Depo Allstars were on debut and taking to eurofootballfives football like ducks to water. They also had 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat to their name with 10 goals and conceding just 4 along the way.

The two teams records today were virtually identical and they had met earlier in the day back in Group E where they played out a 0-0 draw. There was nothing between the two teams and you'd be a brave man to pick a winner!

We reached half-time all level at 0-0 which meant three halves of football between these teams without a goal. As the game went on it increasingly looked like the game was heading for a draw and we would need penalties to split these two teams.

However, there was a game defining moment and one moment of inspiration that settled this Plate Final and determined the destination of the Plate trophy. Tom Kelleher struck for the Depo Allstars and it was Ireland's second success of the day. His goal earned his team a 1-0 win and marked a great debut for his team.

For JF & The Pullbacks it was a great day's play and they had come so close to picking up their first win. Even though they had made the Cup in Krakow last year I would say this was their best performance yet in eurofootballfives.com competition.

Both teams had played their part in a great final which was watched by a good crowd on Pitch D. Our congratulations go to JF & The Pullbacks for a fine tournament as they collected their runners-up medals – they showed us they can certainly compete on the European stage. Bigger congratulations go to The Depo Allstars who claim their first eurofootballfives.com honours, the winning trophy, winners medals and the crown of…

….. 2013 Barcelona Fives Plate Champions.
