El Combe Old Boys (Eng)

Drunk Perfect were back in action and having made a slow start against JF & The Pullbacks and El Combe Old Boys they needed to turn things around quickly. The Depo Allstars were hitherto unbeaten with 4 points from a maximum 6 available. A win here could see them move top of Group E.

It was a great start for The Depo Allstars as they took the lead through Patrick O'Brien. They retained their lead until half-time and then strengthened it after the break as Kevin Shine hit a sweet shot from distance that thundered in for 2-0.

The Depo Allstars were yet to concede a goal and they were on course for a 3rd clean sheet until Deportivo Dooradoyle's watching captain Keith Lynch brough a curse of the commentator to proceedings. Just as he was talking up the merits and quality of Sven Huppertsberg in goal an uncharacteristic mistake in an otherwise superb morning's work saw Dimitri Hubert reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The mistake did not prove costly though as The Depo Allstars saw out the game and claimed a 2-1 win.

Like The Depo Allstars, JF & The Pullbacks had started with a win and a draw. Could they emulate the Irish team and add another victory and three points to their points haul. If they could, a place at the top of the table would be theirs.

In their way stood the RAF Fylingdales. They were yet to get off the mark and had just seen their nearest rivals Drunk Perfect slip to defeat so any form of positive result here would see them climb into 4th position. Things didn't start well though as JF & The Pullbacks raced into a 3-0 half-time lead. In the second half the lead was extended to 5-0 to round off a fine victory. There were goals for Simon Crowther, Jonathan Adams (2) and Michael Meredith (2). At the other end it is worth mentioning that goalkeeper Jonathan Croft had just kept his third clean sheet in as many games. JF & The Pullbacks moved to the top of Group E on goal difference.

RAF Fylingdales would need to regroup for their final group game to get some points on the board.

El Combe Old Boys versus The Depo Allstars was going to be a crucial game in Group E. The winners would move back to the top of Group E, a draw would see The Depo All Stars achieve that and a loss would leave the losers in third place. El Combe Old Boys had a little room for error as they still had a game to come after this but for The Depo Allstars this was their final group game and they had to make it count.

We had three first half goals to enjoy in this fixture and El Combe Old Boys edged it 2-1 with Tim Romback and Peter Lewis goals giving their side the advantage over Kevin Shine's goal for the Irish team.

There was no addition to the score after the break as El Combe Old Boys ran out 2-1 victors. It was a third successive win for them and they were on course for Cup qualification. For The Depo Allstars it probably meant the Cup would elude them and the Plate was the most likely destination for their knock-out football.

Game 9 was Drunk Perfect versus RAF Fylingdales. It was already guaranteed, due to results in other groups, that both these teams would be playing in the Trophy competition this afternoon. There was still much to play for though as they had the honour of 4th place in the group, pride and they would hope to avoid the Trophy play-off and the extra game that would entail.

Drunk Perfect flew out of the blocks though and raced into a 3-0 lead. There was then the biggest cheer of the day and the wildest celebration of the day as Steven Kavanagh scored their first goal in Europe. It was a great moment in the tournament. However, the moment was a little short-lived as Drunk Perfect quickly made it 4-1.

There was plenty of goals in this game and the scoring continued and in the end we finished 7-2 to Drunk Perfect. Jay Garratt scored the RAF Fylingdales second goal.

For Drunk Perfect the goalscorers were Anders Ragnar (hat-trick), Alvaro Gimeno Domingo, Dimitri Hubert, Damien Legal and Damien Digonnet. They finished 4th and would go into the knock-out phase on a high.

With 9 games down there was just 1 more to play in Group E as JF & The Pullbacks met El Combe Old Boys. It was a cracking game to end the Group with 2 unbeaten teams. It was a winner takes all game and the Group E title was up for grabs as was Cup qualification. El Combe Old Boys had the luxury of knowing all the other groups had finished and that even a defeat would see them through as one of the best Runners-up. A draw/win would see them win the Group. JF & The Pullbacks had to win as 7 or 8 points in 2nd place would not be enough for them.

With the game underway it was El Combe Old Boys who drew first blood as Matt Hall became the first man to score past Jonathan Croft today. Andy Hampshire became the second as he made it 2-0 and maintained El Combe Old Boys 100% record. With four consecutive wins they were through to the Cup Quarter-Finals and would certainly be a team to watch in the knock-out stages.

It was tough on JF & The Pullbacks as just one defeat meant they would finish in third place (on goal difference behind The Depo Allstars). Those two teams would progress to the Plate.

Drunk Perfect and RAF Fylingdales would progress to the Trophy but Fylingdales would need a play-off to make the Quarter-Final draw.
