Group C kicked off with Stanford FC versus ADP Netherlands 2. Both teams were playing their first European fixture with eurofootballfives.com. Stanford FC had been one of our most enthusiastic teams in the build-up to the tournament and now was their time to shine. ADP Netherlands 2 had seen their first team get underway with a victory in Group A and would hope to emulate this.

The first half came and went with the two teams stuck level at 0-0. The second half also came and went with the two teams level but we were to witness some goals in the second period.

Eric Loomans goal for ADP Netherlands 2 and Mark Reed's goal for Stanford FC cancelled each other out. It was a solid start for both teams and a platform to kick on from in their remaining three more games.

In Game 2 of Group C it was two more debutants with ADP Madness of Spain taking on Burritos FC. The ADP teams so far had struggled in Groups A and B with the Dream Team and Royals both slipping to opening game defeat.

Burritos FC had brought two teams to Barcelona and this was the first time they were to step on the field – buoyed by the support of their “Mustard” squad.

What followed was a very close contest. ADP Madness were looking a better team than their other two squads and Burritos FC were looking equally adept. Neither team could breach their opponent's defence as we reached the break all square at 0-0.

After the break there was to be a winner and it was Sacha Prohaczka of ADP Madness who struck the goal and claimed all 3 points for his team.

The final team to begin their campaign in Group C was Team Maverick – the most experience team in this Group based upon previous eurofootballfives.com appearances. Team Maverick made their debut at the 2012 Valencia Fives. They were the draw specialists in the group stage which hindered their progress. They qualified for the Plate competition and sailed through the Quarter-Finals 4-0 before a penalty shoot-out exit at the hands of Club Tropicana Drinks FC.

They would begin against Stanford FC who had a draw themselves in the opening game. Team Maverick had not wanted to be known as the draw specialists and would use our opening gambit as fuel to their fire and a motivator to kick on for victory.

At half-time in this one though we were level at 0-0 and the dreaded draw looked on the cards. Cometh the hour, cometh the man though and that man was Vasos Michael. His goal proved to be the decisive strike as Team Maverick won 1-0.

ADP Netherlands 2 were back in action looking to build upon their opening game draw. Their opponents were ADP Madness who were looking to continue their form with a second win. This was an ADP derby that transcended borders as Netherlands met Spain.

So far Group C had been tight with a draw and two 1-0 wins. All the teams were looking well matched. Defences had been on top and in each game we had reached half-time 0-0. This game was to follow the pattern in terms of being tight but there were to be goals. This time we reached half-time at 1-1.

The goals continued to flow in the second half and ADP Madness ended up edging the result by the odd goal, 3-2. Ricard Garcia, Marcel Besier and Christopher Iliakis all scored for the Spanish team and they lead Group C.

Burritos FC were next up on Pitch C looking for the result that would kickstart their tournament challenge. In such a tight group three points can go a long way and see a team rocket up the table. Up for grabs was 2nd place in Group C despite a narrow opening game defeat. Their task would not be easy against Team Maverick.

Team Maverick had opened up with a win, were unbeaten in 4 eurofootballfives.com games (2 wins, 2 draws) and had lost just once in 7 games. They were up against it in the early stages of this game though as Matthew Lee and then Dave Byrne gave Burritos FC a 2-0 lead.

Team Maverick needed a sensational second half to avoid their unbeaten run ending but Burritos FC were proving extremely proficient at protecting their advantage. There was to be no further score as Burritos FC ran out 2-0 victors.

The two teams were now level on 3 points in second position with Burritos FC ahead courtesy of goal difference.
