As the 2010 Barcelona Fives Cup Semi-Finals were about to get underway there was only thing we were certain of – an England v Spain final. The draw had thrown up an all England semi-final on pitch A and an all Spain semi-final on pitch B.

Let's start, as we so often do, on Pitch A with Magic Monkeys FC taking on It's Back. Magic Monkeys brought a 100% record into the game and would be tough to beat. We also wondered how It's Back would fare after such a mammoth effort in their last group game to get to this stage. Had it taken too much out of them? If it had they weren't showing it and were competing every step of the way. As hard they battled they could still not prevent the Magic Monkeys taking a first half lead from John Hernon.

In the 2nd half It's Back clawed the game back to 1-1 through George Bowman. It was a remarkable goal for two reasons, the first was that it was Bowman's 6th goal in as many games. The second reason was that he was the first man to score past Mark Szeliga today. No goalkeeper has gone through a eurofootballfives.com tournament without conceding but Szeliga was looking like he could have been the first but he could do nothing to prevent Bowman who drilled it in from close range.

The game was nip and tuck from there on in and both teams had chances to win the game. We did get a decisive goal and it came from Russell Chopping who notched his 5th goal in 6 games. This fifth goal arguably the most important thus far as it sent Magic Monkeys FC into the Barcelona Fives Cup Final.

Commiserations to It's Back and good luck in your next tournament campaign. There were signs a European trophy could well be hitting your cabinet some time soon.

So, who would meet Magic Monkeys FC in the final? Well, what a game we had in store to find out. We were about to be treated to the 2008 Barca Fives champions taking on the 2009 Barcelona Fives champions. For one, there dreams of a second title would be over. These teams had yet to come face-to-face in combat so it would be intriguing to see who would come out on top.

In truth, there was nothing between the two teams and neither forward line could find the way through to goal. The plaudits went to Rapid Bosco Navas goalkeeper David Garcia Gallego and his Anglo Knights counterpart, Jordi Aragones who both kept clean sheets.

Golden goal extra time also proved goal-less and so the dreaded penalty shoot-out reared its ugly head. As much as the forward's couldn't score in open play, they couldn't miss from the penalty spot. Three penalties each and we were locked at 3-3. This was looking like it could be a very very long afternoon. However, the 4th round of penalties did provide us with a victor. It was Rapid Bosco Navas who missed the vital spot kick and Anglo Knights took full advantage.

Perhaps this should come as no surprise as Anglo Knights had won on penalties in the 2009 Barcelona Fives Quarter-Finals and Final. They now had a hat-trick of shoot-out victories. Clearly the word ‘Anglo' in their name doesn't relate to England otherwise they'd have lost all three!

A big thank you to Rapid Bosco Navas and we look forward to seeing you next year.
