The opening Plate Semi-Final brought together Victory United of the Netherlands and Retainers AFC of England. Victory United had finished third in Group A after an impressive recovery from two opening defeats, while Retainers AFC had battled their way into the knockout stage by claiming fourth place in Group B. There was also an interesting subplot to the contest. Victory United had already defeated Retainers Stoned - the sister team of Retainers AFC - by a commanding 7–0 scoreline earlier in the day. Retainers AFC were eager to restore some pride for the touring party and book their place in the Plate Final.

The first half proved to be more competitive than the earlier meeting between Victory United and their English counterparts. Retainers AFC stayed organised and frustrated the Dutch side for long periods, but Victory United eventually found the breakthrough. Amine Bial continued his excellent tournament with the opening goal, giving his side a narrow 1–0 advantage at the break and leaving the Semi-Final finely poised.

Victory United stepped up another gear after the restart. Amin Bial struck again to double the advantage before Faisal Baddih added a third to put the Dutch side firmly in control. With Retainers AFC chasing the game, more space began to appear, and Faisal Baddih capitalised once again to complete the scoring and seal an impressive 4–0 win.

For Retainers AFC, it marked the end of a hard-fought campaign. While the result was disappointing, they had shown great determination throughout the tournament and battled until the very end. Perhaps there was a little consolation in the fact that they had kept the scoreline closer than the 7–0 defeat suffered by Retainers Stoned earlier in the day, which may well have earned them some friendly bragging rights within the touring squad. It was fantastic to welcome Retainers AFC back to eurofootballfives.com competition, and we hope to see them representing England again at another European tournament in the very near future.

The second Plate Semi-Final paired Joga Bonito of Romania with 6Guys of the Netherlands in what looked, on paper, to be one of the closest contests of the knockout stage. Both teams had identical records of three wins from five matches and nine points on the board. Joga Bonito had enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in a particularly competitive Group B, while 6Guys had experienced a rollercoaster day, starting with two successive 1–0 victories before suffering back-to-back defeats, only to recover with a crucial win in their final group game to reach the Plate. Joga Bonito might be slight favourites with a 12-6 goal difference compared to 7-6.

The match lived up to expectations as neither side was able to gain the upper hand during a tightly contested first half. Both defences remained disciplined, chances were limited, and every challenge carried extra importance with a place in the Plate Final at stake. When the half-time whistle sounded, the teams remained deadlocked at 0–0, setting up an intriguing second period. As the game wore on, spaces gradually began to appear and the contest opened up. It was 6Guys who seized the opportunity. Jose Manuel Méndez Kosaras proved to be the match-winner, breaking the deadlock with a composed finish to put the Dutch side ahead. Joga Bonito pushed forward in search of an equaliser that would have forced a penalty shootout, but they were caught once more as Kosaras struck again to double the advantage. His clinical brace settled the Semi-Final and secured a 2–0 victory for 6Guys, who booked their place in the Plate Final against fellow Dutch side Victory United.

Commiserations go to Joga Bonito, whose tournament may have ended in the semi-finals but whose debut campaign was full of promise. Competing in a difficult group, they won three of their five matches and showed throughout the day that they belonged at this level. Just as importantly, they were a fantastic group both on and off the pitch and embodied everything that makes eurofootballfives.com events so enjoyable. We sincerely hope this is the first of many appearances and look forward to welcoming them back to another tournament.
